Many thanks for responding. Perhaps if we get enough clues, we can fill in more of the family history. >I did some research at the >Loudoun courthouse and found the records mentioned, >and the will of Harrison's father, another Elijah >Jenkins. I was fortunate to get a recommendation for a lady in Florida who is considered to be an authority on the Jenkins who lived near the borderline between Fairfax and Loudoun counties. She has studied the laws of inheritance in regard to women, in Virginia, and how old legal papers were written -- deeds, chancery cases, etc. Her opinion is that it is Delilah, who is the daughter of the elder Elijah Jenkins and Rebecca, and that Harrison is her husband. I have more on this. After studying her reasons to support this, I agree with her. BTW, Tavenner's Papers at the Balch Library support this theory, too. Possibly Harrison is the son of Thomas Jenkins (see Amelia Gilreath's Jenkins books). I need to find more on this. >What I did not know was anything about Harrison's >death. I presumed that he outlived Delilah, because >in a book of marriages in the Loudoun Courthouse, the >listing for Elijah Jenkins and Charlotte Everhart >listed only Elijah's father Harrison, with a blank in >the space for his mother. I forgot that, but now that you mention it, I remember thinking that too. I saw Elijah and Charlotte's marriage in the marriage register at the courthouse. It was dated 26 Jan 1882. Even so, if Harrison Jenkins died in 1875, that would still leave from 1875 to 1882 for Delilah to get remarried and then die before Elijah's marriage in 1882. Another possibility is that whoever gave the info on the parents in the marriage register, knew the husband's father's name, but didn't remember the husband's mother's name. Keep in mind that Delilah Jenkins was alive in the 1870 census. FWIW, I did notice that in the tax books at the Loudoun courthouse that Harrison Jenkins had been paying tax in the years 1870+, but in a few years, maybe 1873-74 timeframe he does not appear in the tax book. I need to check my notes on this. Another thing, there is a Harrison Jenkins listed (no dates) in the Fairfax County, Virginia GraveStones books, Vol.1 (by Fairfax Gen. Soc.), in Arnon Chapel Cemetery in Great Falls. He seems to be a more recent Harrison Jenkins, but he could be the older one. Or he could be the son of the elder Harrison Jenkins. There is also a Delia L. Jenkins (b. 1907) near by, and a William L. Jenkins (b. 1867), plus a few other Jenkins. Could possibly this Delia be a daughter of William Jenkins, who might be a son of the elder Harrison Jenkins? Food for thought! >If you are interested in more information Would you know if Harrison Jenkins or any of his children fought or participated in the Civil War? Civil War records might uncover more info on the family. Great to hear from you! Thanks for any help you can provide, Valerie
