In an off list discussion with another member it was mentioned that "John Divine pointed out a lot of the Civil War units had their start from Revolutionary times and obviously War of 1812 did". The possibility was offered that "it was the 57th that was the Waterford people on the WEST side of Catoctin Mtn and the 56th that was the Leesburg people on the EAST side of Catoctin Mtn in Revolutionary times". Questions to the list - by chance does anyone have any reference materials or knowledge that might define the militia units (particularly the War of 1812) from Loudoun by the locations in which they were organized? For instance ...was the 57th comprised of Waterford residents in 1812 - were there other areas or units included - are there records available (other than from NARA)? Thank you for any suggestions or information that you have to offer, Susan McIntyre
