    1. [VALOUDOU-L] Esther Templer Trammell
    2. Thanks to the efforts of Pat Duncan for making us aware of this information. There is a will for Esther Trammell filed in Loudoun County, VA, dated 20 July 1856, in which she refers to a daughter, Elizabeth Freed, and a daughter-in-law, Mary Catharine Trammell and her children. RcCt 11 Nov 1856 - Reference L:260. The following is transcribed from the copy I have obtained from the Court. __________________ In this my last will & testament I commit my body to the dust - my soul to God. I give & bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Fred the sum of five dollar. I give & bequeath to my daughter in law Mary Catharine Trammell for the use of herself & children two feather beds & the clothes belonging to them, also, I bequeath to Mary Catharine Trammell & her children all other personal property that I may have about the premises the said Mary Catherine Trammell, I also give & bequeath to my daughter in law Mary Catharine Trammall for the use of herself the sum of one hundred & sixty dollars, being the amount of a note held by me against the said Mary Catharine Trammell. Witnessed by Esther Margaret Ann } Made & witnessed her X mark Mary Jane Alexander } on the 20" day of July Trammell A. G. West } 1856 At the Court held for Loudoun County November 11" 1856 A paper purporting to be the last will & testament of Esther Trammell was presented to the Court proved by the oaths of Margaret Ann Bodine and A G West two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and on the motion of Mary Catharine Trammell is ordered to be recorded. ________________ We had previously known of the marriage on 17 May 1808 in Loudoun County, VA, of Esther Templer to Gerrard (sp?) Trammell and also knew of her daughter Elizabeth Trammell who married Samuel Freed on 9 August 1830 in Loudoun County, VA. We did not know of a son who is known now to us by reference to a daughter in law named Mary Catharine Trammell. Nor did we (obviously) know about any grandchildren. Can anyone identify the name of the son of Esther Templer and Gerrard Trammell? And can anyone identify the daughter in law named Mary Catharine? Is there a marriage record in Loudoun County, VA, for a Trammell man and a Mary Catharine ? that might fit this scenario? We believe that Esther Templer Trammell is buried at the Fairfax Friends Cemetery as there is an Esther Trammell buried there with a death date of 24 Jul 1856. Can anyone provide insight at to where that cemetery is located? Additionally, can anyone tell me how these witnesses might fit into the picture? Friends, family, etc. Thanks for all that everyone does on this board. You are wonderfully helpful to those of us working from such long distances. Charlie Templer

    3. Charlie, Fairfax Cemetery is in Waterford VA, about 7 miles NW of Leesburg. Although the Meeting House which it adjoins was "laid down" (discontinued)in 1929 and became a private residence in 1939--and remains one--the cemetery is public property essentially at the intersections of county routes 698 and 665 (Loyalty Rd and Old Waterford Rd.) If you check the Waterford web site (www.waterfordva.org you might see it shown there (our town also has a Union (of Churches) cemetery for non-Quakers and for African-Americans. I see from my Fairfax cemetery index that "Esther Trammell, died July 24, 1856, age 66 yrs", is buried next to "Eleanor H. wife of D.G. Hough. b. 9th mo 20th 1828 d. 6th mo 21st, 1854, age 25 yrs; who is buried next to "Thomas Trammell b. Jan. 20 1809, d. Apr. 24, 1854, age 45 yrs." Is Thomas the son-in-law? :-) I see checking the marriage Bonds by Jewell 1762-1850 p. 87, One Thomas Trammell marries one Mary Catharine JENKINS on April 5, 1839, Security is William Cooper who testifies ages. same book, page 30: Samuel FREED marries Elizabeth TRAMMELL on August 39, 1830, Security is Thos. Templar, guardian of girl, witness Henry D. Freed. Can't help you on witnesses but a Loudoun Bodine descendant is on the list- Bettina Allred--perhaps she can help!
