    1. Loudoun County records
    2. Does anyone know if the Loudoun County Clerk will make copies of records of marriage records, or do you have to go to the courthouse? I live about 1800 miles from there. Marriages of Loudoun County, Virginia 1757-1853 by Mary Alice Wertz lists the following: "Cerdell (Cordell) Alexander & Dienna (Diana) Wilson, niece and ward of Sanford Ramey. Order Bk. 4, p. 290, Sanford Ramey appointed bride's guardian, orphan of James Wilson late Culpepper County., now Madison County. Permission to marry. 21 June 1813." Any suggestions about how to proceed will be appreciated. Thanks. David M. Cordell 9301 Utica Drive Lubbock, TX 79424 806-687-6018 [email protected]

    3. Yes, the archivist can make copies of court records. Be sure to give book and page number. http://www.loudoun.gov/clerk/archives.htm Archives, Clerk of the Circuit Court 18 E. Market Street P.O. Box 550 Leesburg VA 20178 Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Mon-Fri. Phone: 703-737-8775 e-mail: [email protected] The costs are: 50 cents per page for 8½ x 11 and 8½ x 14 $1.00 per page for 11 x 17, available 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Note: Copies can be made from most books and documents, however, the Clerk's Office reserves the right to refuse to make copies from items deemed oversized or fragile. They expect payment up front, do not refund any overage, and like a SASE. That entry from Order Book 4, page 290, 11 March 1811, reads: Sandford Remey appt'd Guardian of Diana Wilson orphan of Jas. Wilson dec'd late of Culpepper Co now of Madison Co, bond & sec'y given. I don't believe the marriage actually took place in Loudoun. Guardian Sandford Remey was granting permission for her to marry, probably in Madison Co where she appeared to be living.
