Distributed for Pepper Scotto, Frederick Country Genealogical Society: The Committee for the Preservation of African American Family History of Frederick County, MD is holding an introductory workshop on researching, preserving, presenting, and sharing local family history. This program is open to anyone who is interested in learning about the resources available for gathering social and family history and family connections. Workshop sessions will be given by a team of African American from the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis and the Baltimore County African-American History and Genealogy Society, as well as Mr. Jerry Hynson, noted African American researcher, author, and former president of the Maryland Genealogical Society and Barbara Smothers, noted speaker from the Baltimore African American History and Genealogy Society. A variety of topics will be addressed including getting started with family history research, working with oral histories and family traditions, and using records out of the Civil War era. Displays will be on hand all day from local authors, churches, African American organizations, the Maryland Room, C. Burr Artz Public Library, Frederick County Public Libraries, the Frederick County Genealogical Society, and others. Various books will be available for sale from the authors. Location of this workshop will be the Asbury United Methodist Church, at the corner of West All Saints and Court Streets, Frederick, MD parking across the street. Registration starts at 8:30am and program starts at 9:00am and concludes at 2:00pm. this event is open of the general public. Registration is $10.00, cash only, and is payable at the door.
