    1. Re: [VALOUDOU-L] RUSSELL/COHAGEN/SWINGLE CONNECTION/LOUDOUN CO.,VA.
    2. Shirley, DAVID seems to be a family RUSSELL name in the William Greenway Russell's family. With the naming patterns which honor grandparents, parents, and favorite siblings your DAVID RUSSELL could belong to this RUSSELL family in some way. WILLIAM GREENWAY RUSSELL was born 5 October 1800 and was engaged in the mercantile business before the Civil War. He was a Quaker and held many City of Winchester public offices over his lifetime. WILLIAM GREENWAY RUSSELL died 31 January 1891 and is buried at Mt. Hebron. For your files, the following information on his family: "What I Know About Winchester" by William Greenway RUSSELL Page 7 "The Author" The RUSSELL family was of English origin, but the progenitor of the American branch had emigrated to Holland in 1688. From thence in 1732 RICHARD RUSSELL came to America and settled in Wyoming Valley, Pennsylvania. Of the seven sons of RICHARD RUSSELL, two (DAVID & JAMES) later came to Winchester. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------The children of DAVID RUSSELL and HANNAH GREENWAY were: JESSE D. RUSSELL, who moved to Missouri in 1811; HETTIE and ELIZABETH RUSSELL, both died in childhood; JOHN RUSSELL, who moved to St. Louis in 1814, but returned to Winchester and died here in 1832; ISAAC RUSSELL, born in 1795, a soldier in the War of 1812, and a merchant in Winchester, who died in 1857; and WILLIAM GREENWAY RUSSELL, the author of these memoirs. Page 56 "South Loudoun Street" Adjoining on the north was a vacant lot,---------. --------------and was bought about 1817 by DAVID RUSSELL, who erected on it a neat dwelling, and at present the residence of ISAAC W. RUSSELL. A log house----------, which was purchased by DAVID RUSSELL, Sr., about 1795, who added a second story to the house and imporved it very much inside and out. DAVID RUSSELL, Sr., had five sons: JESSE D., JOHNS., ISAAC, DAVID, and WILLIAM G. He had also four daughters: HETTY, ELIZABETH, woh died in infancy, MARY A. who married ROBERT SMITH and HARRIET who now occupies the house; the family are all dead but WILLIAM G. and HARRIET.
