This is an excerpt from Evelyn Avery's Research Article Who is Sarah, wife of Samuel Russell. I new the name Mahlon rang a bell but not my family line: John McIlhany in 1809 mentions a Sarah Russel who is now the wife of Morris Davis. A Samuel Russell is the executor of his will, [14] and Sarah has a son Mahlon Russell who is inventoried in BK U/32. Our Sarah does not [1] have a son Mahlon. There are several Sarah Russells in Loudoun Co, but the above are too young to be Samuel's wife, and/or NOT married to a Samuel. During the years 1750 to 1790 there is only ONE Samuel Russell on the Loudoun Co rent lists, tithe lists, census, etc. There is one other Sarah here. Sarah Hatcher. In 1754 Samuel Russell is mentioned in the deed [15] of Mahlon Kirkbride, his land being ... "corner to Samuel Russell." In 1755, Samuel Russell buys [16] part of the same tract of land that Mahlon Kirkbride had purchased. I have not discovered where Samuel obtained the land he had next to Mahlon Kirkbride in 1754. However, in 1753, John Hatcher had purchased [17] land next to Mahlon Kirkbride. Sarah Hatcher, the sister of John, is married to a Russell, and Samuel Russell is his neighbor. They all live about 2-3 miles east of the Goose Creek Church, in Shelborne Parish. That Sarah is married to a Russell is provided for us in her father's will. The will [18] of William Hatcher, written 19 Jan 1780, proved 14 May 1781, leaves plantations to each of his 5 sons (John, James, William, George, & Thomas) and an equal share of his estate to his daughter Mary Gibson. To his daughter Sarah Russell, he left 10 shillings, with no explanation. His wife, Ann VanSandt, [19] is unmentioned. In a message dated 10/13/2005 10:00:54 P.M. RUSSELL,b. ?, d. 12 Oct. 1864, Brush Creek Twp. Muskingum Co.,OH. They mar. 22 Feb. 1855, Zanesville, Musk.Co.,OH. His father was said to be MAHLON RUSSELL, who mar. MARY ANN MOON(E) in Loudoun Co., VA 22 October 1827. When I brought up that name on World Connect it stated that MAHLON's father could have been a ROBERT, THOMAS SR., or SAMUEL RUSSELL.
