In my HARTMAN family research I see that several members on the 1850-60 census give occupation as US Armory filer, mechanic, steel polisher, gunsmith, etc. I realize that Harpers Ferry is quite close where the Armory had a plant as well?? but were people in this county working over the county line during that time? or locally right there in Loudoun Co?? If traveling, what distance? Anyone help here? Part of the family and the one I'm tracing in the 1860's moved to Springfield, Massachusetts and continued to work for the Armory there.
