To Further Explain DNA Testing: Family Tree Labs explains to those who find matches which are not of the same surname that such matches do not indicate a recent relationship to those persons, only a common ancestor in the distant past before surnames came into use.. I have found over 300 matches to my test results but can only consider three as possible relationships within the past 500 or less years.. as only those three bear my surname... DNA will give you a hint as to where your ancestors may have come from; England, Scotland, Ireland, France etc.. My surname "Harrald" "Herrell" "Harrell" etc. has been in use for over a thousand years but DNA does not prove which line I may be connected to in earlier times.. GLH G.
