No, I have not found any name other than Enoch Francis. Another researcher gave me that information and was so positive it was true that I added the William. Eventually I will remember his name, or get home the 1st of May where I can look it up. I do not believe there is any listing under anything other than Enoch, unless someone has a Family Bible that states differently. Now there is a second Enoch Francis, the son of Thomas, who is listed on the 1850 census as Wm Enoch Francis. He was born in 1832. These are the emails I got back from Pam Sarno in the past couple of days. She answers some of our questions. Sorry I didn't get to this this morning but I got sidetracked; it is easy to do! | Tosca | | | ----- Original Message ----- | From: Pam Sarno | To: Tosca | Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 7:37 PM | Subject: RE: Re Francis Family | | | Tosca, | There probably are records about the Huey family in the Monthly Meeting minutes, but I have not had time yet to look into them. They attended the Birmingham Meeting House in Chester Co. | | Yes, we also believe that Thomas Francis married Leanna Gulick after Mary Huey died. | | Do you have any sources for the name William Enoch. In the Rev War statement he signs Enoch Francis. I am trying to find a place where the name William Enoch is used (tax roll, land deed, marriage record, etc). I see it on family trees online, but can't figure out where it came from. | | Pam | -----Original Message----- | From: Tosca [mailto:tkwhsimms@hovac.com] | Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 4:00 PM | To: Pam Sarno | Cc: PattiB9460@aol.com | Subject: Re Francis Family | | | Pam, | Thanks for the reply. I'm certain Patti will love having the file... since she is definitely connected to this family. Hopefully she can answer your questions about Betty Sue/Little Irma and give you a last name as well. | | If Mary Huey was a Quaker, then there should be more data on her from Monthly Meetings, right? | | Also, do you think it is possible that after Mary Huey died, Thomas remarried Leanna Gulick in 1826, or not? Betty Frain and I have been wondering that. Have you been following that discussion? | | I thank you so much for your contributions to my file on Thomas and William Enoch. | | Tosca | | | ----- Original Message ----- | From: Pam Sarno | To: Tosca ; PattiB9460@aol.com | Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 11:06 AM | Subject: RE: Writing Offlist -- Re Francis Family | | | Hi, | | It is interesting to hear from you now since I recently read A Francis Tree by Maria Clayton Francis Johnston, Minnie's mother. I am happy to share the Thomas Francis Rev War statements. This includes a statement from his brother Enoch, who was Maria's grandfather (Minnie's g grandfather) The Notes are mine, collections of references from other books and my personal observations. | | I would like to know more about Little Irma, is her given name Betty Sue? Betty Sue is the only name listed as a child of Irma Rowena Jones in the Francis Tree book. I live not far from the MD eastern shore. | | The Francis Tree book also lists Thomas and William Enoch's father as "Thomas Francis of Wales". But, there is nothing documenting this statement. The research we have done makes it seem more likely that their father was John Francis. This is from Pikeland Twp, Chester Co, PA tax records. Do you have any evidence about who their father was? The Rev War statements give the most clues I have found because their birth dates and place are specific. The tax rolls for Pikeland show Thomas, John Sr. and John Jr during 1765-1787. Enoch or William Enoch is never listed. But there are nearby names listed who match names referred to as neighbors in the Rev War statement, so I think this Thomas, John Sr. and John Jr are the right Francis family. | | If the Francis were true Scotch-Irish then they were Presbyterians. Or, they could have been Welch Baptists. The Thomas Francis family and descendents were Baptists at least by the 1830s. Thomas Francis wife, Mary Huey, was definitely from a Quaker family in Chester Co. | | Will be happy to answer any questions - if I can. | Pam Sarno | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | The First Sunday in each month will set aside for a "Brick Wall" Roll Call.
