I am descended from Jacob Slater, the immigrant, through his son John, John's son George, George's son James, and James' youngest son Paul Meredith. I have accumulated quite a bit of information which I'll be glad to share. I would like to be in touch with other Slater family Genealogists. Other families I'm interested in: Shoemaker (all spellings), Darr, Musgrove, Purdum and Warner. Is there a chance that someone has any old photos of the families or their homes? Thanks in advance for responding. Janice Beall Taylor jlbtaylor@verizon.net

Hi, Janice! My g-grandfather, Edward Smith Ruse, married a daughter of George Slater, Annie Eliza Slater, on March 1, 1855 in Frederick County, MD. She died less than a year later, on Dec. 20, 1855, and is buried in New Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery in Lovettsville. I would very much like to know more about this family. Where did Jacob Slater immigrate from? My information on this family is pretty sketchy, but shows your James to be an older brother. Any information you are willing to share would be deeply appreciated! Thanks! I'll be happy to share the Slater information I have. Feel free to contact me directly at ma.scott2@verizon.net. The immigrant was Jacob Schloetzer. He arrived with his son Jacob and probably the rest of the family in Philadelphia in Nov 7, 1754. I haven't been able to determine where he was from. He married a second time in 1757 and died in Chester Co, PA in 1770; his will listed him as a weaver. His children were Jacob, George, Rosina, Mary, and Martin. His son Jacob was somewhere near New Hannover/Limerick for a few years then moved to Loudoun Co in the late 1760's. His children who survived to adulthood were John, Jacob, Susanna, Elizabeth, and Christina. His wife was Susanna Habicht who was first married to Casper Spring. She had two sons from that marriage, Andreas and Frederick. Jacob's brother George and sister Rosina both died in Frederick Co. leaving no heirs. I don't know yet what happened to the brother Martin, but I'm looking into the Slatzer family who showed up around Perry, Ohio in the early 1800's.
