In tracing my BARTLESON family in Philadelhia County, Pennsylvania I learned that MARY BARTLESON, daughter of BARTLE BARTLESON and ELIZABETH KNIGHT of Whitemarsh Twp. married JAMES FOX. and had several children born in Fort Loudoun, Virginia Colony, America in the 1740s, according to Kevin Wayne Quincy on WorldConnect. I believe BARTLESON FOX was a brother. I have not been able to reach Kevin to verify this. Bartle named James Fox as his son-in-law in his will in Feb. 1777, bequeathed 5 pounds to James and Mary and to each of their children. I also found on the LIbrary of Congress Website James Fox and family were living in Fort Loudoun, was helping to open the route from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh. The forts had to be closed because of Indian uprisings. At age 82 I do not remember enough history to determine if THIS Fort Loudoun was the same one but was located in Virginia before Pennsylania was formed. And I have not been able to find that page again and do not know where else to look for an answer. Or were there two Fort Loudouns? I also found in 1687 JAMES FOX (probably his father), received a permit to lay out a "cart-road" from Philadelphia to Plymouth Meeting now known as the Germantown Pike. Thanks for your help. It would be great to have an answer. Helen Smith Gammon hsmithg@earthlink.net
