Hello - Can any one out there tell me about Susan Byrne? Here is the backgound information: Robert E. Beal(l) married Susanna Wright 6 Mar 1832 in Loudoun Co.. Susanna Wright was the sister of Alfred Wright. Both Susanna and Albert were children of John and Rebecca Wright. Loudoun Co., Va Deed Book 5F p. 195-3 Aug 1852. Robert E. Beall sold to Alfred Wright for $25.00 his interest in a certain house and lot in Waterford which formerly belonged to Susan Byrne, deceased, who died intestate...which said interest...Robert Beall holds in right of his wife who is one of the heirs of Susan Byrne. --- I could not find a Loudoun Co deed in which Susan Byrne purchased this property. Can any of you help me on this? Thanks so much for any help or suggestions you can give me on this. ===== My personal website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~virginiawesttooregon The complete database of our family history: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~familylibrary/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Lois, Well. I/we (my husband and I who collect, and he computerizes, Waterford data) have some info on one Susanna Burns/Byrnes who may or may not be the same as the one you ask about. I had hoped to send you a lot more, but today being Friday of TG holiday, I found both Balch and the courthouse closed. So, more on Monday or Tuesday. Meanwhile, this is what we have. All info (except day and month of her birth) is sourced and I can send that to you if you need--meanwhile, I will just write the info, but give up front credit to Louisa Hutchison's wonderful "Apprentices, Poor Children & Bastards, Loudoun Co., VA, 1757-1850" from which the earliest info came. She was born 30 September 1772 in Virginia; and was apprenticed to one Thomas Matthews on 14 January 1778. In Waterford's 1830 census, she heads a household containing 1M30-40, 1F40-50(self), 1 F<10; and in 1840, heads a household containing 1M 50-60; 1F 10-15, 1F 60-70 (self) respectively. In the 1850 Waterford census she is described as: "black, illiterate, 86 [years of age], living alone, real estate valued at $150"; On the 1853-54 map of the village which appears as a corner element of Yardley Taylors county map of the same date, her name appears on a lot on Second Street that I happen to know is lot 61 of Mahlon Janney's "Auction", the 64 lots that were sold at his death in 1812. If you check the Waterford Foundation's website at www.Waterfordva.org and check the walking tour on Second Street, the present house is number 15619, "The Shawen House." I have a set of the records of all the "Free Negroes 1851-1859 Over the Age of 12" listed for tax purposes in the three tax districts of Loudoun County and Susan Burns...or spelling variants does not appear there, so perhaps she died early 1851? As I recall, LoCo death records don't begin until 1856. I was hoping to complete the chain of title today but could not. Froom the late John Divine's records, I know that Mahlon Janney's executors sold the lot to Mary Fox (LoCo Deed Book 2S148, no date given) then John's records show a gap until August 9 1853 in 5K337, one WILLIAM G. WRIGHT sells to William Nettle. I would guess that William Wright is white, as William Nettle certainly is, BUT there is a black Alfred Wright who is a minister in Leesburg a few years later. Can Marty Hiatt help here?? The white Wright family is, of course, a huge family and is the object of much discussion with Sue Beach, Susan McIntyre and myself on a side chat at the moment.... Anyway, That is what we have on Susan/Susannah at the moment. More as I find it.
