The reason I ask is that in 1818 in Hampshire Co. there was a John ROBINSON who applied for a RevWar pension. He stated that he was 72 yrs of age and that his wife, Margaret was 68. However, he also stated that they were the parents of Nelson, age 11 and Elizabeth age 20 plus another daughter that I can't remember right now. I have always thought it very odd that a couple this age would have children so young! Seems impossible to me! But it was in 1821 that Nelson was shown in the Lewis Co., VA Chancery records as a orphan age 12. I haven't been able to find out when John ROBINSON died and I was in Hampshire Co. 2 summers ago. They have very incomplete records there--I think it is a combination of limited volunteers and thae fact that so many of their records were destroyed druing the Civil War. But it is frustrating! If he was a RevWar soldier you would think that the DAr would know where he was buried but they don't and this John isn't even listed in the DAR Patron book even tho his application was approved. In 1810 Loudoun Co. there was a household headed by Sarah ROBINSON who was age 26-45 and had 3 M 0-10 and 1 F 0-10. In the 1830 Lewis Co. census there was a Sarah ROBINSON age 50-60 with 1 F 80-90 I don't know if these are the same women and if she could be the mother of Nelson but I do know that many times the children were shown as orphaned even if their mothers were still libing but since the woman rarely had a means to earn money, the children were sent to live with others. Nelson was sent to live with Abram REGER and his wife, Leah Ann BRAKE who were newly married and lived in Lewis Co. and somehow must have been related to Nelson but I don't know how as yet. I don't know why a child would be sent to live with total strangers or someone not logistically close. Any help you can shed would be most welcome! Thanks for responding to my query. Melinda Larson
