Lois, Susan and Sue, the final deed tanscription-- William Wright and others To William Nettle Lot 61 in Janney’s New Addition August 9, 1853 $150.00 Transcribed from Loudoun County Deed Book 5K 337-341 by Bronwen C. Souders, Education Committee, Waterford Foundation, December 6, 2001. Underlining, capitalization and paragraphing added for clarity. This deed made the ninth day of August in the year 1853, between William G. Wright and Margaret his wife, Alfred Wright, William Weadon and Mary his wife, John Wright (of Charles), Charles Wright (of Charles) Alfred Wright and Elizabeth his wife, Thomas Wright and Martha his wife, Robert E. Beall and Susan his wife, William Burke and Mahala his wife, Thomas Young and Martha his wife, Johnson Wheeler and Susan his wife, Jacob Myers and Eveline his wife, Robert Thomas and Rebecca his wife, Charles Wright (of Joseph) and Joseph Wright (of Joseph) of the one part, and William Nettle of the other part, Witnesseth that, in Consideration of one hundred and fifty dollars, the said parties of the first part grantors, do grant unto the said William Nettle a certain lot land situated in the new addition of the town of Waterford in the County of Loudoun and State of Virginia and described in the plat of said new addition as lot No 61 on Second and Janney Streets and bounded as follows: Beginning at the intersection of said Streets,, thence with Second Street, S 21 ½ W 4 poles to the Corner of Lott No 62, thence with said Lott No 68 ½ W 10 poles to the back Alley, thence with the Alley N 21 ½ E. 4 poles to Janney Street, thence S 68 ½ E 10 poles to the beginning Containing one quarter of an acre being the same property conveyed to Susan Burns by Mary Fox by deed duly recorded in the Clerk’s Office of said county in Liber 3 L folio 325, to which reference is here made And the said grantors covenant that the said grantee shall have quiet possession of the said land free from all incumbrances, that they will warrant generally the same, and will execute such further assurances thereof as may be requisite. August 9, A.D. 1853, This day personally appeared in open court Thomas Wright and Martha Wright, the grantors in the foregoing deed of conveyance and acknowledge the signing and sealing thereof to be their voluntary act and deed for the uses and purpose therein expressed and the said Martha being at the same time examined by me seperate [sic] and apart from her said husband Thomas Wright and the contents of said deed being fully made known to her by me she then declared that she did voluntarily sign seal and acknowledge the same and desired me so to certify in order that the same might be admitted to record. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the Probate Court (the same being a court of record) at the Court house in Xenia, the day and date above written. I or J. W. Harper, Probate Judge END DOCUMENT TRANSCRIPTION, begin BCSouders’ summary of information in remaining pages of deed: There follow 8 separate attestations by Loudoun County Justices of the peace, included Waterford men Noble Braden and David Shawen ,but also several non-Waterford County men, certifying that various couples, or wives, or husbands appeared either on 9 August 1853 or 8 September 1853 and “acknowledged the above”. They all THEN do a “final” signature in either 1853 or 1855. Those for: Susan Wheeler and Susan Bell [sic “wife of Robert E. Bell”] (R.C. Littleton and Ludwell Luckett, J.P.) were finally signed 22 August 1853;, as were Johnson Wheeler, Robert E. Beall and Joseph Wright [separate transactions from wives] (. R.C. Littleton, J.P.) John W. Wright was finally signed (Friench [sic] Simpson, J.P.) on 30 August 1853; William C. Wright and William Burke (Samuel Purcel Jr. J.P.) on 5 September 1853; Margaret Wright and Mahala Burke finally signed on 5 September 1853 [separate transaction from husbands], (Friench Simpson and Samuel Pursel., Jr. J.P.); Charles W. Wright finally signed on 8 September 1853 (John Moore, J.P); Alfred Wright finally signed 13 October 1853 (Samuel Pursel, Jr. J.P. ) Two years later, they got the rest of the group to sign: Jacob Myers and Robert W. Thomas finally signed 1 February 1855;by Noble Braden); Evanlina [sic] Myers and Rebecca E. Thomas signed finally on 1 Feb. 1855 [separate transaction from husbands],( Noble Braden AND D. Shawen, J.P. . ] The whole ball of wax was wrapped up as follows: “This deed from William G. Wright and others to William Nettle was this day received in said office and admitted to record, February 24, 1855. Teste, Geo. K. Fox. D.C.” Bronwen
