I have recently found that the minister who married my James FULTON and Mary NEWMAN in 1833 was affiliated with the Baptist Church. This is a little unusual since most FULTONs of this time period were Presbyterian. Therefore, if I can find a Baptist Church in the Loudoun Co./Prince William Co. area which has FULTONs on the membership lists, it may provide a lead in tracking down my James FULTON's parents and siblings. Would those of you who have such membership lists please check to see if there are any FULTONs. With activity on the list picking up slightly, and as someone who answers numerous queries, I would like to make some suggestions for writing a effective query. Be specific. Remember that you are asking someone to spend their time looking at their resources for information you are seeking, so the more specific you can be the better. Don't ask for all information on a particular surname. Give details. Be specific as to the person you are looking for. List any possible spouse, possible children, pertinent dates or time periods for vital events. If you think or know they entered or left the county at some time, indicate so. The more information you give to narrow down the references that should be searched the better chance you have of receiving good information. Keep track of references you have already checked. When someone posts that they have a reference, be sure that you have not already checked that reference before asking for a lookup. The Loudoun County USGENWEB page (http://www.rootsweb.com/~valoudou/loudoun.html) has a list of references and volunteers that are always available, as well as other useful links. See the volunteer webpage at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~valoudou/lookups.htm If you have hit a brick wall, ask a query about a known sibling or other relative. Someone may have information about the relative that could be beneficial. Thank the responding person. This lets the person answering your query know that you appreciate their efforts and whether the information was of value or not. So post a query and make it an effective one! I did not find a marriage for a James Fulton to a Mary Newman in the marriage books covering that period. Did the marriage occur in Loudoun and who was the minister? No Fultons on the records of North Fork Baptist, Goose Creek Baptist (Fauquier), or Mt. Hope Baptist. I know this isn't your Philip - but I've been renting films on Minister's Returns for Shenandoah county 1772-1877 - yes, almost 100 years scattered amongst 3 films, lol. I haven't ordered the third one yet though. I HAVE scanned the early marriages, whether I had people on them or not, just because I know how hard to find they are. This is the only Porter I found on either of the films. Let me know if you are interested in the scan. Its easy enough to email it to you 1798 - John County? to Nelly Porter (2167845_837) the only other reference I have is "Records of Indentured Servants and of Certificates for Land Northumberland County , VA 1650-1795" by Preston Haynie p263 1601. 17 Nov. 1726 - Robert ROSS, servant of one Frances PORTER of Talbert County in Maryland, having run away from his said Master & taken up by Cary KEBLE of the Dividing Creek & lyeing in this County['s] goal seventy six days. Ordered that he be sold at outcry by the sheriff to pay the charges due by Law of this Country for his being taken up & Lyeing in goal for eight years & fifteen days. Order'd that he serve above the Indented time of eight years & fifty days, one year seven months and six days the prison fees & other charges amounting to Twelve hundred & eighty pounds of Tobacco. In Loudoun, I have only found it as BRADEN or BREDEN, Other places I've found it in a variety of forms: BRADING, BREEDEN, BREEDING, BRAIDIN, etc. Sue On Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at 3:04 PM, Marge <msealock@mchsi.com> wrote: > Do you think the name evolved into Breeden...it would be worth a shot to > check. > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > The First Sunday in each month will set aside for a "Brick Wall" Roll > Call. Marty, We have a large collection of the minutes of the Ketocton Association. It began in 1766. The little book of minutes from 1784-1930 by the DAR - is that the minutes of the association, or of North Fork Church? If it is the church, I would be interested in trying to contact them for a copy or xerox copy. The 150th anniversary pamphlet you mentioned, 1835-1985, must be the "Regular" Baptist church (as shown on Pat's message earlier today), not the Primitive Baptist. I have some old photos of the very old brick building, containing slave galleries, of North Fork church, which show a very old cemetery adjacent. I live in Carthage, Illinois, and have been collecting association minutes for almost 40 years, and church records since about 1988 or a few years before. North Fork was part of the Ketoctin Association. You will find the most historical information in association minutes. A little book of minutes 1784-1930 was published by the DAR in 1977. A 150th Anniversary history of the church (1835-1985) was published in 1985. Someone at Balch Library in Leesburg might know if you could purchase a copy. Secondly, contact the BHS - Baptist Historical Society in Richmond, Virginia. Estelle, I only have about 48 names, which I think must be from the earliest years of the church, pre-1800 (back to about 1784). There were no Gordons in what I have. Pat, I'm interested in the North Fork Primitive. Could we purchase a copy of the records and list of members? For use in the Primitive Baptist library, which we conduct here in Carthage, Illinois? Hi, I have a book regarding church records in Loudoun county, but just wondered if anyone on this forum knows of records or detailed history of the North Fork Baptist church near Purcellville. Any help would be appreciated. Robert
Marty Hiatt and I are in the process of compiling a second church records book for Loudoun, covering from 1800 to approximately 1850. No details yet when that book will be completed and available. Do you think the name evolved into Breeden...it would be worth a shot to check.

do you know who Elizabeth Conner's parents were? Some Conner's married into my Lehews so I have a couple of names of some Conner researchers I can ask. Julie in CA Marge <msealock@mchsi.com> wrote: Well one brick wall is Lavenia Riley born about 1890 (daughter of Elijah Riley ca 1838 and Elizabeth Conner ca 1840) who married Isaiah Young born 1850.
