The Swart name is Dutch. The Adrian Swart family that settled in Fauquier and Loudon Counties can trace their ancestry back to the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam in the early 1600's. From there the family moved to New Jersey and then to PA and in the late 1700's Adrian Swart and his family settled in Virginia. Within a couple more generations most of them had moved west from Virginia. The name Adrian was passed down through the family. The Swart name was sometimes spelled Swartz or Swarts. My husband's ancestry goes from Adrian Swart to Barnett Swart to Catherine Swart Smith to Adrian Smith.
I know the 1800 census for Virginia was destroyed. Does a substitute for Loudoun county exist? Are there tax lists or voter lists from around 1800? Thank you. Can someone tell me if the 1810 Census was taken geographically. For example, my ancestor, Benjamin Walker, lived in what is now Philomont. In the 1810 census the people listed immediately before and after them were Benj. Kent, Aaron Burson, Ambrose Fox and Jno? Ewers. Where these people the neighbors of Benjamin? In my quest to find the family of my ancestor, Mary Taylor, it seems logical to look at the Taylor families who lived close to her and her husband Joseph in 1810. They were married in 1803 and seem to have moved a bit away from his father but in 1820 they were back in the same area. (On the same page as Benjamin in 1820) I'm also looking at the Taylor families who lived close to Benjamin since it would be likely that Joseph still lived with his father before he was married. Thank you! You can use the Personal Property Tax Lists. There is a published CD "Index to the 1782-1850 Loudoun Co. Personal Property Tax Lists." Loudoun County records do not begin until 1757 when the county was created from Fairfax County. A Henry Lefever and a Michael Lefever first appear on the Loudoun Co. Tithables in 1774. Hi Alice.? My name is Donna and I had many relatives in Loudoun VA in the 1800s.? You caught my interest with Adrian Swart.? I come from the Wesley Jenkins line, but I have a family picture of someone named Adrian Schwartz. At least we thought "Schwartz" was the spelling.? But I've? not been able to find anyone of that name in the Loudoun area.? So I'm thinking perhaps we have the wrong spelling of the name and it is actually Swart.? I also have a picture of Sallie Swart.? Do you have any other info on the Swart family?
