    3. There are a few other Loudoun books under keywood LOUDOUN. There are also two early 1900's ledger books from the F & M National Bank of Hamilton. This would make a nice addition to the Balch Library collection, if someone would like to donate them. 1. [VALOUDOU] March 29 German Genealogy Symposium - Frederick, MD - John Humphreys from MAGS
    2. Pepper Scotto
    3. I am not sure if I saw this announcement posted about a great opportunity for our family and local historians. I think this is a good opportunity to come to Frederick and learn more German resources and techniques. Give the Historical Society a call to learn more, or find out if there is still room. Good time to meet other German researchers, and those interested in local history. My apologies for the multiple list postings, but I think this is too good to not spread the word. When you register - let them know you if you first saw this on Rootsweb! Pepper Scotto GENEALOGY SYMPOSIUM 2008 Sponsored by: Historical Society of Frederick Co., MD GERMAN GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH with JOHN T. HUMPHREY, President of Mid-Atlantic Germanic Society When: Saturday, March 29, 2008 . 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Where: The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center -40 South Carroll Street . Frederick, Maryland Cost: $40 for HSFC and as a courtesy to FRECOGS members. $50 for non-members Pre-register is a must - space is limited, and lunch and handouts are included only for pre-registrations - see bottom for link to registration form. Agenda: 9:00 a.m. Registration and Continental Breakfast 9:30-10:30 Session #1: RESEARCHING EIGHTEENTH CENTURY GERMANS Germans were the largest non-English speaking group to immigrate into 18th century America and they settled in the mid-Atlantic region. Differences exist in records that were kept for these families for three important reasons: they were immigrants, they had different record-keeping traditions, and they spoke a different language. These differences will be examined in this session. 10:45-11:45 Session #2: RESEARCHING GERMAN ANCESTORS: "THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY" More Americans claim descent from German ancestors than from any group that immigrated from the British Isles. This introduction to German research explores obstacles like language and customs, and it looks at a variety of records kept by Germans, both in the U.S. and Germany, that will open the way to a rich source of research material. 12:00-1:00 Lunch (Sandwiches and beverages are provided and included with pre-registration) * Select local history and genealogical titles from the HSFC Bookstore will be on sale (cash, check, and Visa/MC accepted). 1:15-2:15 Session #3: THE MORAVIANS: EIGHTEENTH CENTURY CLERICS AND CLERKS The Moravians were a small part of the much larger German immigration into the mid-Atlantic region, but their legacy is far greater than their numbers would suggest because of the records that they left. Much of what we know about life among mid-18th century Germans, especially as it relates to immigration and the early church in the region, comes to us from their records. 2:15-3:00 Informal discussions and information sharing JOHN T. HUMPHREY is president of the Mid-Atlantic Germanic Society and a past vice president of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. He is an award-winning author whose principal publication is the 16-volume set Pennsylvania Births listing over 200,000 births prior to 1825. His specialties include Pennsylvania colonial families and German immigrants. Mr. Humphrey is a native of Northampton County, Pennsylvania. 1. Re: [VALOUDOU] Tavenners
    2. Marty, The only information that I have is what I posted plus what Pat Duncan sent me. I appears the son, James, was born about 1785. From the Loudoun will abstract of John Pyott from 1787, Susannah Taverner is listed as his daughter. At this time I don't know where they lived but I would speculate somewhere around Hamilton. This is where George and Tabitha Tavenner had their "plantation" and their children spread out from there. For the most part they lived in the Goose Creek area from Hamilton down through Lincoln and on to Philomont. 1. [VALOUDOU] James Tavenner & wife Susanah, 1802, info sought
    2. Looking for information on a previously unknown James Tavenners. The following is an abstact taken by Mrs. Walter Jewell many years ago. George and Tabitha Roach Tavenner had a son James but he born in 1780 so would have been too young for the above. The information I have is that he was married to Frances Barbee 22 Dec 1802 in Fauquier Co. Page 35 Book II, Misc. Rec. Loudoun County Binding of children Decr. 19, 1802, Susanah Tavender desires her "sun" James be bound to James Rose of Loudoun. On Jan. 11 1803, James Tavenner gave his consent for his son James to be bound to James Rose. The only Susan(n)ah Tavenner that is known is one who is the daughter of John Pyott who lived in Loudoun County. It is speculated that she was the wife of Richard Tavenner but I haven't seen any proof of that. Thank you for your help.
