Does John C Griggs show up on 1830 census? John Carter Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting...Holy Cow! What a Ride!
Thanks Pat, I believe he was married in Clarke but he was buried in the Goose Creek cemetery in 1875. I think his wife Lucy Boston/Bosteyan, not Emily, my mistake. Probably died soon after daughter Julia Ann was born. He is in the 1840 census with a female child and no wife. Later Julia Ann is living with her grandmother Juliet Boston/Bosteyan and is mentioned in her will. Julia Ann married my great grandfather James L. Carter and James was an executor to Juliet's will. James L. Carter married his first wife Mary Elizabeth Conard in Loudoun County in 1857, so I am seeing some travel back and forth from Clarke County by my James. John Andrews apparently was not a very good clerk. There are several mentions in the Order Books about his neglect of duty and drunkenness. Order Book E, 13 August 1770 [p. 1] Last will of John ANDREWS Clerk deceased proved by witness Jeremiah HUTCHISON and ordered to be recorded. Certificate granted named Executor William Carr LANE, Gent. with Jeremiah HUTCHISON his security and £200 bond. for obtaining a probat. Liberty is granted Fleming PATTERSON, Gent. the other Executor to join in the probat thereof at any time hereafter if he shall think fit. Fielding TURNER, Samuel LOVE, Joseph BROWN and Thomas COCKRELL to appraise estate. His will stated that Fielding Turner be paid for his board at £15 a years which he comes due the first day of July if it should please God to take me sooner that he be paid in proportion and allowed £8 extraordinary for my burial. His books being the onliest value next to my sallery bequeathed to Mrs. Anne Turner the life of our blessed saviour done by Dr. Jeremiah Taylor; to godson Lewis Ellzey Turner my bible; wearing apparel (except my linnen which I desire Mrs. Turner to be given) to William Groves. To be buried on east side of Rocky Run Chapple that Mr. Wilson now clerk may read his buriel service. .. No direct mention in his will of Mrs. Anne Turner being his daughter. Thanks Pat. The reverend's will was my basis for Fielding's first wife being named "Anne". I had also heard about his less than stellar reputation. In a 2005 book entitled "Our Turner & Walker Families ..." the author states that Fielding's first wife was named Anne Andrews. I don't know where he got the last name for her but it piqued my interest in Rev. Andrews as a possible relative. Does anyone know if Rev. John Andrews, first clerk of Cameron Parish, was married? If so, could you please share the details? I am following a clue that claims Fielding Turner's (b. 1706) first wife, known only as "Mrs. Ann Turner", was an Ann Andrews. Since Fielding was very close to Rev. John Andrews I thought possibly this Ann Andrews could be a dau. of the reverend. Pam --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search.

The names John and Luke Holder appear before 1800, but the surname is more often given as Holden the lists. The letter A, B, and C are for the placement on the microfilm which was used for the abstracts. The microfilm is of the lists sent to the state auditor in Richmond each year. The county does not have copies on file.
