No mention of a Baldwin Harle in the Apprentices, Bastards, etc. book. I have abstracted only the earliest Fairfax County Order books, before 1760. I do have information from the Order Books beginning in 1783, but none from 1756-1783. Fairfax Co. Order Books - abstract on index cards: 23 Mar 1791, p. 413 - Baldwin Harle a witness for Sampson Trammell 2 days. Paid one pound to travel from Washington County 100 miles. A John Harle appears on several of these abstracts from 1783-87, with him as Plaintiff in suits for debts. >From the Fairfax Co. Thank you Marty for the information. I would love to be in the Northern Neck to research, but if going there to the courthouses, etc. would not be of any more benefit than a good genealogical library then I need to get to the library. If your talking about Thaddeus b. 1712, I doubt he was in Loudoun Co. I show he died in 1731 - 10 years prior to his wife Sarah Ellen Chinn who died in Lancaster Co. in 1741. IF this is the same Thaddeus you're talking about. The McCarty's and Chinn's were huge landholders in Loudoun Co. but think this Thaddeus at least pre-dated the ones in Loudoun Co. Pat, I am looking for any information on John and William Harle, Harl who may have been placed as orphans with Edward Embs, Emms about 1750-55 in Loudoun or Fairfax co.. Thanks for any clues! G. Lee Hearl Authentic Appalachian Storyteller Abingdon, Va.
Loudoun was not created until 1757, so there would be no record in the county before that time. Fairfax County Order Books 1749-1754: Order Book, 27 September 1749 [p. 36] Last will and testament of John HARLE deceased presented in Court by William HARLE and proved by Moses PIMMET who declares he see the other evidences subscribe the same, and Elizabeth HARLE, Benjamin SEBASTIAN and William ELSEY refusing to take upon them the burthen of the execution of said will, administration of the decedent's estate with the said will annexed is granted William HARLE, he having complyed with the law in such cases and the will ordered to be recorded. Ordered that William WINDSOR, Francis ELSEY, Richard COLEMAN, and John THOMAS inventory and appraise the estate of John HARLE deceased and Admr. return the inventory to the next Court. Order Book, 31 March 1750 [p. 68] Churchwardens of Truro parish bind John HARLE an orphan to Edward EMMS, he agreeing to learn him to read and write and teach him the art or mystery of shoemaker. Order Book, 27 June 1750 [p. 89] On petition of Susanna GEFFRE against Charles BROADWATER and Benjamin SEBASTIAN, Gent. Executors of William HARLE who was the Administrator of John HARLE the petitioners account being proved, judgment granted her against Defendants for £2.3.11 of the goods and chattels of the intestate in the hands of said Executors when so much thereof shall come to their hands to be administred with costs. [p. 90] On petition of John Triplet and Company against Charles BROADWATER and Benjamin SEBASTIAN, Gent. Executors of William HARLE who was the Administrator of John HARLE the petitioners account being proved, judgment granted them against Defendants for £3.6.0 and costs of the goods and chattels of said John HARLE in the hands of the Defendants when so much thereof shall come to their hands to be administred. [p. 93] On the petition of Elizabeth HARLE against Charles BROADWATER and Benjamin Sebastian, Gent. Executors of William HARLE who was the Administrator of John HARLE deceased, the petitioners account being proved, judgment granted her against Defendants for £2.12.0 and costs of the goods and chattels of said John HARLE when so much thereof shall come to the Defendants hands to be administred. There were several other additional suits against John Harle and William Harle recorded in this Order Book. Pat Duncan GenNutLdn@msn.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "G. Thanks, Pat & Betty for all your good help. I'll keep trying from time-to-time, but I think this is one brick wall that's never gonna come down. Donna
Teresia, this may not be any help to you, but I remembered the McCarty surname and relocated that Daniel McCarty was the second husband of Elizabeth Pope in our Payne family. They married on 19 October 1699, probably in Westmoreland Co. Her first husband was William Payne of Westmoreland Co. By this second marriage, she had 9 children: Dennis, Thaddeus, Billington, Katherine, Winifred, Sarah, an daughter with unknown name, Anna Barbara, and Daniel, Jr. This information was on Danny Payne's "The Paynes of Virginia" web site, but I see that it is no longer online. It may also be in Col. Brooke Payne's book _The Paynes of Virginia_. I hope this will be some help to you farther back than Loudoun Co. I found her in 1860! Elizabeth Hammerly living in Leesburg, age 58, only one year younger than when she died in 1870 at age 59. ;-) That agrees with your birth date of 1802. She is living with Emily Simpson, age 25, Chas W. Morgan age 35, Isabella Morgan age 21 and their two children. I will send you the page. This is probably Emily Loyd who reported her death in 1870. I have no idea what the connections are. Betty -------------- Original message -------------- From: dcmowery@aol.com > Thank you so much, Betty! I need to make some corrections to the information I sent. I, too was told Elizabeth died in Mar 1860. However, I just pulled up the Mortality Schedule for 1870 and her date of death would be Mar 1870,, reported by family 147. I find that as being in Leesburg, Emily Loyd, age 33 and her four children, and a domestic Mary Lozenburg, age 17. So I will do a better search for 1860. What is the date when Jacobs was killed? If my messages ever begin coming through, you will have multiple copies of this. Sorry, but I can't depend on my present provider. Betty Elizabeth Hipkins Hammerly died in March of 1860, in Loudoun County. She is listed on the 1870 Mortality Schedule: >From Ancestry: Source Citation: Census Place (City, County, State): Northern Division, Loudoun, Virginia; Roll: T1132_10; Page: ; Enumeration District: ; Line Number: 12. William Hammerly, and John Hammerly (my 3rd great grandfather) were the sons of Garrett Hammerly and Comfort Simkins. William is buried in the Old Stone Church Cemetery in Leesburg with his first wife, Sarah Woody. John is buried in Union Cemetery, Leesburg. However, I suspect he and his wife, Jane Drish, were originally buried in the Old Stone Church Cemetery. John's son John was very active in the establishment of Union Cemetery and though I don't have proof, because John Sr died before the opening of Union, I believe he was moved by his son John, also a cabinet maker and undertaker. The Old Stone Church Cemetery was allowed to deteriorate badly during this period. In fact my mother remembered the stones being set to the sides so the High School could use the area to play tennis. Hope this helps. Searching for any type of link between Luke/Lucas Holder b abt 1725 in Fauquier Co., moved into Loudoun Co. via Fairfax patents, and possible brothers, Davis Holder, William Holder and Joseph Holder. Was Luke's Father John Holder? Out of Somerset, Maryland? Did John Holder marry a lady with the last name of Davis? Where can I find records that go back to the early Northern Neck years, 1690s to 1700? Thanks, Shirley Holder Antrim

I think the Emily Simpson was the daughter of a relative who died. There was a James S. Sampson/Simpson who attested ages for?her marriage to Hipkins. I don't know for sure what the exact relationship was there either.
