Littlejohn was a literate Methodist minister who traveled all over Loudoun Co. The only early "church" building was in Leesburg. Just because he performed the marriage, doesn't mean the couple were active Methodists. I think he supplemented his income this way, and lucky for us because we was very diligent in returning the marriage information to the county court. You can read about Rev. John Littlejohn in Vols. 5 & 6 of Northern Virginia Genealogy. Ms. Marty Hiatt, CGRS "Document what you find, listen to what you are told, and especially, love and respect your work." Steve, I was wondering if your Robert Thompson might have been in Athens Co, OH in 1827 before he went to Warren Co, IA. There is a Robert Thompson listed as one of the first settlers in the town of Nelsonville in Athens Co, OH. My husband's gg-grandfather, Samuel Price Cullison, married Elizabeth Thompson, daughter of Calvin Thompson, in Athens Co, OH. They moved to Warren Co, IA and were on the census there in 1850. They later moved to Lenape in Leavenworth Co, KS. Bonnie Cullison, OK
Nope. He was born in Loudoun, then moved to Winchester, then to Kansas. Sorry. --sd -----Original Message----- From: Bonnie Cullison [mailto:bonniec@brightok.net] Sent: Wednesday, October 10, 2001 10:02 AM To: VALOUDOU-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [VALOUDOU-L] Robert Thompson Steve, I was wondering if your Robert Thompson might have been in Athens Co, OH in 1827 before he went to Warren Co, IA. I am desperately looking for some birth and marriage records for Robert Thompson. He was born approximately 1804 and married Mary (maiden name unknown). They moved to Winchester, Warren county and show on the 1850 census with 8 children: Sarah (18), Samuel (16), Margaret (14), Morgan (12), Ann (10), Jackson (8), Lucy (6), and Martha (2). I know they ended up in Leavenworth, KS where he died in 1876. If anyone has any info, please let me know. Thanks. R. Steve Davis

Hello, I'm new to this list and am trying to get hold of Jack Revare Leawood who posted the message below..His e-mail address at the bottom is not active can anyone give me his new address? I have Eales from Pa in my line if there is anyone that has Eales in there family line please e-mail me at LLLORENSEN@KTIS.NET Thank you Barb I am looking for parents of John EALES, who was on the 1787 tax list for Loudoun Co. He served in the Rev. War in the 1st and10th Regiments of VA. He married (?) Jane Whaley and moved to Bourbon Co., KY. Two other John Eales persons had estate inventories in Westmoreland Co. in 1721 and1760. I believe they are connected, because so few people had this name in the 1700's in VA. Hello, I saw your Burson name and I wanted to say that there is variations (like most) on the surname, I knew a Berson family. I found your James in the DAR Patriot Index, published by them in 1966. The book does not have a burial place however, someone submitted his name, You may want to contact the DAR, and ask if they know where he was buried. There was also a James Burson, that served in the Revolutionary War, from PA. Helen

If you go to the Shenandoah County website - Shenandoah County Virginia GenWeb - and using their search engine, search for GATEWOOD, many marriages are listed beginning in the late 1700's. Rick Monroe

Hello, Is there a current book on the cemetery/cemeteries in Hillsboro? Also, are there cemetery books on any of the other cemeteries in Loudoun County? I understand that the PURDUM family lived around Waterford. I was in Leesburg last year, when they were remodeling the Court House. I couldn't stay long enough at that time to visit any cemeteries in the area. So I am interested in purchasing cemetery volumes from the area. I was born in Hillsboro, HIGHLAND COUNTY, OHIO, which is close to Leesburg, Highland County, Ohio. Many ancestors of the residents of this county came from Loudoun County, because this area of Ohio was the VIRGINIA MILITARY DISTRICT in Ohio, where Revolutionary Wariors were paid with land, so moved there, or sold the land they received there, and didn't actually move to this area in Southern Ohio. I have several ancestors who were from Loudoun County: Precious Ann Queen Queen/McQueen family the Powell brothers she married Benjamin Purdum Jeremiah Purdum Schade/Shade ancestors Taylor ancestors These are the ones off the top of my head. Please see my web site below. Barb Barb http://www.purdum.accessgenealogy.com http://www.barbsmachinesandfabrics.eboard.com
Mary Ann, Do you know the source for the birthdate of Isaiah? It is right to identify him with the son of John Romine and his wife, Rebecca, whose maiden name is currently unknown by me. That this couple had a son of that name is proven by lawsuit papers filed in Loudoun Co, VA. Isaiah appears to have had at least two daughters, Rebecca & Thirsz, both of whom married in Loudoun Co, VA. Thirza married Mason McKnight in 1834 and Rebecca married James Merchant in 1831. An unconfirmed bit of information said his wife was called Liddy. Renee L. Dauven Mary Ann Miller wrote: > Hello, > I am looking for any information about Isaiah Romine b. 12/12/1776 in Loudoun Co. Isaiah was the son of the John mentioned in the will. Isaac disappeared during the Rev. War after he had joined a military unit. It was said by some of the family that he had died since they never heard conclusively from him again. Peter Jr. claimed that he had heard OF him and that he had gone to KY and married and had at least one child. However Peter was unable to prove this when the family began to squabble over what to do with Isaac's portion of Peter Sr.'s estate. Renee L. Thank you, Betty, this is one great list--so many helpful people. One of my greatest problems is that Jonathan's farm has never been really identified. The family had some disagreements and the Executor did not appear to be doing a good job of carrying out his father's wishes. Maybe I should hire a surveyor who could help pinpoint his farm. Has anyone on the list experienced this problem? There are a number of McArter/McArtor burials in Loudoun, but I don't see Jonathan. It is very possible he was buried at home, or that his marker has disappeared, thus he has not been found by later cemetery recorders. Most are buried in the City Cemetery, Hillsboro, one, J.W. buried in Goose Creek Burying Grounds (d. 1847) Betty Frain ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert McArtor" <mcartor@erols.com> To: <VALOUDOU-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 04, 2001 11:27 AM Subject: [VALOUDOU-L] lost grave > My gggg grandfather JONATHAN McARTOR died on his farm near Hillsborough, Virginia, in 1835.
