If anyone has access to 1870 Loudoun Census, I'd appreciate of lookup for John R. Sisk. I believe he appears on this census in Loudoun. Thanks so much. Sharon

Sondra, Snickersville was located southwest of Leesburg. It is also known as Sniggersville Gap. Some of my JAMES and CLAYTON family came from there. There is a book about the town: Snickersville by ? Herron Smith. Thomas Balch Library has a copy of it. Hello, I only know that its name was changed. The name Bluemont comes to mind, but I'll check on it and get back to you. >From "Guide to Loudoun" by Eugene Scheel: Originally called Snickers' Gap, P.O. 1807-1830; informally called Punkintown after load of pumpkins rolled down mtn from errant wagon. P.O. called Snickersville from 1830-1900. Named for late-18th-c. farmer and land speculator Edward Snickers. P.O. changed to Bluemont in 1900 at suggestion of J. P. Morgan's Southern Ry; PR men thought name more enticing to D.C. tourist trade. Historian Briscoe Goodheart wrote in 1917: "Enough valuable history was buried by changing the name of Snickersville to Bluemont to cause the ghost of Edward Snickers, the German pioneer, to haunt the officials of the Southern Railway forever." Sunday auto excursions of early '20's ended resort dreams of the Southern. Highest village in Loudoun, 700 ft at P.O. Site of Bluemont Fair in fall. Hi Sondra: My ancestor, William Adams, owned a grist mill 3 miles from Snickersville from 1841-1846. If you find anything about him, contact me. Hi List Can someone please help me with the location of Snickersville in Loudoun Co. in 1850's. Thank You Sondra
Seeking ancestry of Andrew Thompson, who died 1792 in Loudoun Co., VA. he and his wife Penelope (surname not known) had at least three children, Lomax, Isaac and Andrew. Andrew the younger (b. 1763 or ยน64, probably in DE) married Elizabeth Vincel; they had at least 10 children, including my great-great-great-grandfather, Samuel B. Samuel B. Thompson married Sarah, last name probably Tribb(e)y. She in turn probably was the daughter of a Thomas Tribbey who apparently lived in the Middleburg area. There appear to have been a number of people by this name, possible siblings to Sarah, who also lived in that area. Many of Samuel's siblings, like Samuel, moved to Clinton Co., IN. I have Elizabeth Vincel's father as Adam. There are a variety of spellings for the name, which has links to Wenzel, apparently. Also seeking other descendants of these families. Other surnames involved include Feagins, McDaniel and Miller. Scott Thomson mchomie@triwest.net

THANKS MARTY FOR YOUR CORRECTION. JEFFERSON WAS NEVER PART OF LOUODUN COUNTY. JEFFERSON IS OLDER THAN LOUDOUN. IT WAS PART OF VA., BUT NOT LOUDOUN! CHALK ONE UP FOR YOURSELF! Jefferson was never part of Loudoun. It was created in 1801 from Berkeley County. Neither was Hampshire County part of Loudoun. The mother county of Berkeley (and therefore, Jefferson) and Hampshire, and several other western counties was Frederick County, established about 1738. Loudoun was created from Fairfax; Fairfax from Prince William; PW from Stafford. Loudoun is not, nor ever was part of the Shenandoah Valley, although we had settlers from the Valley who decided they were too close to the Indians so came back over the mountain and across the river into Loudoun county. Hello, I am interested in the location of the Shannondale graveyard, does anyone know of it's location. It is believed to hold the graves to some of the "Strother's" burrials. Since the Strother's have been in this country for several hundred years, it has been said from past relatios that there are Strothers burried there. Any help will be good to get. John B. Strother
