Is anyone researching this surname? There are Ambers in Loudoun Co. VA. at the same time as my Ambrose family. Could this be a misspelling, or is it a different family? I found few of the surname in VA. Thanks for any help. Mary Anne msutphin@tcia.net
In the 1860 Loudoun County Census, Robert Ambrose and family appear to be farm workers, maybe tobacco or whatever was grown in the area. The family is listed under the name of superintendent, Michael Mullin/Mueller/Miller. (Each reading of the original census finds a different spelling.) Can any one give me information on Mr. Mueller and his enterprise? Thank you, Mary Anne msutphin@tcia.net
I descend from part of the Thrasher family, so have quite a bit of Thrasher information. However, all I have is that Emily married Archibald in 1837. I do not have any information on them after 1840. Perhaps this will help someone. This came through on another page and I wanted to pass it on. For anyone interested in Naturalization records, following is a website that does an excellent job of explaining the process, how and where to find records, etc. The article starts out talking about Canada, but continue reading through the article and you will find a lot of useful information. http://rwguide.rootsweb.com/lesson16.htm Rena Worthen List adm.

Hi List: I am searching for any information on the Kent and Scobee families of Loudoun County, especially a marriage date for an Elizabeth Kent to a man named Scobee, first name uknown. Time frame for this marriage would be early 1830's. Any info at all on these two surnames will be much appreciated. Thanks! Karen Conley klconley@webtv.net
I am looking for info on John And Lucy Carter who were the parents of Elizabeth carter who married William Maddox. Her given name may be Frances as there is a marriage in D.C. in 1827 between William C. Maddox and Frances Carter. In the Loudoun County Death records it is noted that Elizabeth was the dau of John and Lucy Carter consort of William Maddox . info given by son James. William had predeceased her by about a year in 1884 . According to Census nad Death reocrd she was born about 1817 . Her first child was born 1828 I have found a John Carter in the 1810 census in Loudoun and I believe that this is the correct area of the County but I have not proven this yet. According to death records William's parents were Joseph and Mary Mattox. He was born about 1808. I have very little info on William and Elizabeth . I do not believe that they were land owners but rather renters. The time frame would be about early 1800 in the area of Arcola Pleasant Valley. Susan
FENTON AND WILLIAM CERTAINLY RUN IN THE FAMILY, SO THEY COULD BE MINE.
BRONWEN, ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, RIGHT NOW I DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THE CENSUS. THANKS, DIANE

Diane, Do you have access to the 1870 Loudoun County census or would you like me to check next time I go to Balch? I see in my 1870 index, of the Tates, listed, there is one Jeremiah, age 63, (BINGO!) in "southern District, LoCo {so south of route 7], series M593, roll1659, page 198.. Maybe you have already seen this but if not, it's a good place to start, because if they were slaves right up to emancipation, this would be the first census they would appear in. The other African-American Tates are Jim, Charles, Emily, Emma, Fenton, James, Lucy, Walker and William. The index lists ages if you can use them.
