Trinity UMC in Paris still holds services but all church records were lost during the 1940's or so when there was a change in church boundaries. Sad, isn't it? I've been trying to find the records for years with no luck . . . yet. Sandy SUZYQ89@prodigy.net wrote: > Would there be a way to obtain church records from > them? Are they still in existence? The name "Hains" rang a bell with me as the church I attended in my childhood was built by a H. S. Hanes. The church is the Trinity Methodist in the town of Paris, which is in Fauquier but is right near the Loudoun line. I'm not sure, but I always thought that the Hanes who built the church was from Loudoun. The church was finished 1895 and has a beautiful round stained glass window of a dove over the pulpit with the words "Donated by H. S. Hanes". Might be the same family - might not. Just thought I'd let you know. Below are a few Hanes buried in the area. The Ivy Hill Cemetery is in Upperville, right on the Loudoun/Fauquier line. I see that builder H. S. Hanes is there HANES, E. Greetings! I have been trying to find parents and other family info about my great grandfather, William Henry Hains, born 1 Jan 1825 in Loudoun Co., VA. I know he lived and is buried in Logan, Hocking Co., OH dying 29 Dec 1880. Do you have any info about him? I would appreciate anything you can tell me regarding suggestions, clues, or specific family ties in Virginia. Thanks a lot!
Birth registration was not required in Virginia until 1853, so before that time you must rely on tombstones, baptisms, and family bibles. Hi List! I've written before, but thought I would write again. My mom and I were going over some notes the other day, and realized some new things. 1. Our ALEXANDERS families originated and moved from Loudoun together to other counties such as Clarke, and Frederick, etc. 2. Hathaway ALEXANDER is my third great grandfather, and was one of the families who moved with the others. He lived in Loudoun in 1810, and possible 1820. 3. We think that Hathaway was part of seven brothers who moved from Loudoun. Hathaway would have been the oldest. 4. We know that Hathaway, and his brothers had the same occupations. 5. We know that the ones we know about had the same religion, and the ones we know about were all Methodist. 6. We think that they connect with the John ALEXANDER who owned the land. This John had the same religion. He built a Methodist church, so that hd didn't have to go to it. Ok. I would love to share all my information. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know! I would love to know about church records, and how you can access them through Loudoun County. Suzanne

(Such as a distant cousin of yours relying on a certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1860, in a town that later became West Virginia). Of course, the Virginia archives for that part of Virginia that later became West Virginia have been transferred to WV. Your ancestors apparently moved to that area just before WV became a State, so there COULD be such confusion. Tom
Does anyone have information about the John William & Margaret Ann (Ramsey) Board family of Loudoun Co.? They were md in 1848 in Loudoun Co. and listed in the 1850 Loudoun Co. census. They moved to WV about 1860 and appear in the 1870 & 1880 census in Lewis Co., Missouri. Margaret is my great-grandaunt. Lots of information to share about the Ramsey family in Loudoun Co. HUNDRED a military and administrative district, dating to the 10th C. under King Aethelred, but in use as late as the 17th C., in early British colonial America. A hundred is not 100 acres but 100 hides, one of which will support a family of that day. Each hide varied from 60 to 120 acres depending on the quality of the land . Famous American hundreds were Bermuda Hundred, and Martin's Hundred which had at least 21,500 acres in the first settlement and 200 settlers.
