Is the name Tribby and Tribble interchangable in Loudoun County records? Mimi Baker
Laura, I do not know about your Jonathan Tribby. I was at the Hillsboro Cemetery and the cemetery at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Neersville, Loudoun Co. last weekend. I wrote down the names, dates etcetera from each Headstone for a Tribby that I found....there were quite a few. They are: At St. Paul's Lutheran Church: Nancy Tribby (I believe this is John T. Tribby's mother) Died April 16, 1897, 86 years 2 months, 2 days old--I calculated that to a birthdate of 2/14/1811. John T. Tribby (this is the husband of my ancestor) Bn 1840, Died 1925 Sallie A. Tribby (This is my Hindman ancestor) Wife of John T. Tribby 1846-1912 Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, Virginia Stone John Tribby bn 4/27/1890 died 5/3/1970 Stone's wife Mary L. Tribby bn 12/20/1895 died 4/9/1982 Carl H. Tribby bn 2/2/7/1883 died 12/14/1962 Carl's Wife: Grace T . Tribby bn 1/30/1888 died 9/17/1946 William Frank Tribby Bn 4/28/1912 Died 2/6/1983 Robert F. Tribby 4/2/1911 died 11/17/1995 his wife, Rose T. bn 10/18/1920 John L. Tribby bn 8/12/1918; died 6/6/2001 his wife, Mary E. Tribby bn 3/1/1914, died 4/13/1991 Owen W. Tribby 1873-1962 his wife, Bessie J. Tribby 1879-1966 The following three were listed on 1 stone: W.F. Tribby, Sr. 9/5/1833, died 10/3/1902 his wife, Emma J. Tribby 10/12/1846, died 12/18/1932 their daughter, Samantha J. Tribby 9/13/1875; died 12/30/1883 Elton V. Tribby 5/18/1878; died 10/24/1934 his wife, Nola O. bn 1/21/1884; died 12/15/1928 Howard C. Tribby 1882-1975 John Derry Tribby 1905-1986 his wife, Margaret Graham Tribby 1907- (Note, I believe Mrs. Tribby is still alive and living in Georgia with one of her sons) Tribby, Jesse W. 1869-1956 his wife, Martha A. 1865-1949 Samuel T. Tribby bn 4/4/1839; died 7/31/1918 his wife, Clara J. bn 3/7/1851; died 1/29/1925 Hope this information might help. Sharon, I am sorry I cannot help you with your request. May I ask if you have anything earlier on the Tribby family. Tribby is certainly a Loudoun Co. name but I believe the same family came closer to DC. probably Arlington. The Tribby Optical Co was in Georgetown on "M" St through the middle 1900s. A descendent, Bill Tribby is /was with the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. He may have some clues. kenneths wrote: > I have a Townsend TRIBBY married to Jane Ann COPELAND with children Mary E., > and William M. Any connections out there? > > Kenneth R. Here at Thomas Balch Library we are in possession of an original document that is a discourse delivered to the Masons of the Olive Branch, United Brethren and Leesburg Lodges on June 24, 1818. Unfortunately it is just a discourse, not a list of members. LaVonne Markham, staff One of our staff says that a current Mason in Leesburg, George Atwell, 703-777-2253, could probably help you find where the old records from that time period are. -----Original Message----- From: Susan McIntyre [mailto:sbmc2@chartermi.net] Sent: Tuesday, February 26, 2002 11:13 PM To: VALOUDOU-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [VALOUDOU-L] Masonic/Freemason records Does anyone on the list know of any Masonic/Freemason records from Loudoun Co. Susan, http://www.grandlodgeofvirginia.org/ Here is the web address for the Grand Lodge of Virginia. I feel certain that by email they can steer you in the right direction. A couple of years ago I touched base with the secretary of a lodge in MD and he found an application for me. So good luck! I just happen to have the page with Cockrell from the nearby Prince William Co. 1850 Agricultural Census Index, which includes--Cockrell: Benj. H., Jo'J., Mahala, Sarah; and Cockrille, Jane. This information is on the Prince William Reliquary, as detailed below on the Pr.Wm. list. <RELIC is pleased to announce the premier issue of our free electronic journal, Prince William Reliquary. This quarterly magazine of genealogy and local history for Prince William County, Virginia, is sponsored by the Ruth E. Lloyd Information Center (RELIC), a department of the Prince William Public Library System. It is edited by our very capable and dedicated volunteer, Carolyn Lynn. Among the material contained in this first 24-page issue: Prince Willliam deaths from Virginia burial transportation permits 1910-1914. Employee lists for the American Agricultural Chemical Company and Cabin Branch Mining Company 1910-1920. Index to the 1850 agricultural census (including names, acreage, and page references). Features we plan to include on a regular basis: * Queries (should have a Prince William County connection). * Current news items relating to local historical or genealogical research. * Articles highlighting events in Prince William's history. * Abstracts and indexes to unpublished genealogical sources. * Compiled family histories: 3 or 4 generations from an early settler. * Discoveries in RELIC: a focus on our lesser-used resources. * Citations to buried Prince William information from other publications. * Family Bible records and other sources submitted by our readers. * Letters to the editor. You may see and download Prince William Reliquary at our web site, www.pwcgov.org/library/relic. We welcome your comments, suggestions and contributions. > Bonnie in OKC

I do believe there were/are Grubbs in Purcellville. My father was born in what was called the "Old Grubb House" which, unfortunately, I am told was torn down to make room for fast food shack because it was on the main road running through the town.
