    3. I know this is no longer a lazy Sunday afternoon, but we had a tornado yesterday here in North Canton, OH and had no power until early morning so I missed the first round. Any ways, here are my early families of Loudoun, not all born there but died and had many children there. Phillip Hoff b. circa 1743 possibly in Frederick Co., MD., d. 1796 in Loudoun Co., VA. Muskingum Co., OH Elizabeth married Michael Sarbaugh ( b. Circa 1802 ) Dec 30, 1824 in New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Lovettsville, Loudoun Co., VA The Werts (and other various spellings) is very well documented but the early Hoff and Adams are not. The Adams should not be confused with the English Adams family that were many in the area. The Hoffs/Huffs are also not to be confused with the Hough family although some records show that spelling. All these families are Germanic in origin. 1. [VALOUDOU-L] MCKIM in Loudoun County
    2. Carole Dilley
    3. Alexander MCKIM (abt. 1720 - 1805) and his wife, Jeannette MCMAHON, came to Loudoun County from Delaware in the late 1740s. One source says they settled near Asby's Gap, a place with many Quakers. All eleven of their children were born in Loudoun County. Most of the nine sons moved on to Richmond, while third son James (1754-aft.1810) remained and inherited his father's property. A daughter, Agnes (1756-??), may have remained in the County and married. Seeking information about this MCKIM family as well as location of Asby's Gap. Carole Dilley Rhode Island

    1. [VALOUDOU-L] Earliest Loudoun Ancestor
    2. Jan Oldham
    3. Searching for information on James Oldham first found in Loudoun in 1767 Tithables, Wm.Douglass list. He is overseer for John Smarr. Probably related to the George Oldham who was overseer for Smarr in 1765. Also on the same list is Robert Stephens, probably related to Sampson Stephens and wife Lenore Adams. Sampson Stephen's daughter married James Oldham. Last Tithable entry for James Oldham is 1775. Have found a Fairfax lease for land in Shenandoah dated 1776 for this couple. The lease is signed by Sampson Stephens, but names James and Leah Oldham as the receptients of the leased land. James and Leah's son Stephen Oldham later married Rebecca Potts, daughter of Nathan Potts who died in Botetort Co, VA, also believed to be of Loudoun Co., VA. James and Leah move their family to Henry Co VA, then move on to Sevier Co., TN before 1795. Robert Stephens appears to live quite near Col or Capt Samuel Oldham on several of the Tithables lists, yet the current thinking is that Col or Capt Samuel Oldham had to children of his own. He did married the widow of Willoughby Newton, Miss Elizabeth Storke. Would love help with this puzzle.

    1. [VALOUDOU-L] My earliest Loudoun Co. ancestor
    2. In response to Rena's suggestion -- my oldest known ancestor in Loudoun Co. is Nelson ROBESON/ROBINSON b. 1809 in Loudoun Co. By 1820 he was living in Lewis Co., (W)V with Abram REGER and his wife Leah Brake REGER and in 1821 was shown in the Lewis County Chancery Records as an orphan age 12 living in the REGER home. It is my guess that he must have been related somehow to the REGER or BRAKE lines probably thru his mother. In the 1810 Loudoun Co. census there is a mention of Sarah ROBINSON with several small children. In 1830 Lewis County census there is a Sarah ROBINSON but I can't prove that this is the same woman or that she could be the mother of Nelson. Nelson married in 1833 and had 5 children: Marshall L. a name often in the REGER line, Cecelia after the first daughter born to Abram and Leah Brake REGER (she and Nelson would have been raised together in the same home and about 5 yrs difference in age), Elam Cummins who was my 2g grandfather. Because of his middle name I have tried to find a connection to the CUMMINS line of Loudoun (Tabitha CUMMINS married Job WARD and the WARD line also ties into the REGER and BRAKE lines) but because of the date of Tabitha's birth about 1764, she could have been a sister of Nelson's mother. I know that I am grasping at straws here! Tabitha was supposedly the d/o James CUMMINS and Charity CARMONS. Does anyone know of other siblings of Tabitha? Also, the WARD, REGER, BRAKE lines were all in the same area of what is now WV in the early 1800's. I am planning a trip to Loudoun County this summer to search for any possible deeds that a ROBINSON might have had about 1810, will, inventory, etc. I have tried to search for some of this online but couldn't find a record of any marriage between a CUMMINS and ROBINSON. I know that there was a John ROBINSON who was a Revolutionary War veteran and was living in 1818 in Hampshire Co., VA and even tho he was shown in his pension application as being age 72 with a wife named Margaret who was supposed to be age 64, John ROBINSON stated that he had 3 children who still lived at home--Elizabeth age 20, Nelson age 11 and another child age 9. The pension application was approved even tho having children this age seems highly unlikely! But the Nelson could be the same person as the one I am searching for. I have a copy of the pension application from National Archives. If anyone can be of help or offer any suggestions I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks for your time and help. 1. [VALOUDOU-L] Elgin - Followup
    2. Hi again, After studying my notes more closely I realized that I had found entries in Joan Peters' book on Fauquier births for the brother and sister of Anna (Anne) Elgin. There are entries for a Mary Adelaide Elgin and a Roger Elgin with their parents listed as W. L. Elgin and M. T. Elgin. I believe Mary Adelaide and Roger were Anna Elgin's older sister and brother. They are mentioned in her obituary which I have and also I remember hearing about them in family discussions. So, are W. L. Elgin and M. T. Elgin the parents of Anna Elgin Bell? And which names do the initials stand for? BTW, we used to call her Billie. Valerie

    2. Tosca K. Simms
    3. No, it is Simms, definitely. See the book "Ancestors and Descendants of Thomas Sims of Culpeper County, Virginia Edmund Butler of Virginia and Kentucky with Allied Families and Other Culpeper Data" Compiled and Published by Lela Wolfe Prewitt in 1972, for documented relationships basically through Walter Hamden Simms being born along with his siblings. It really begins with the finding of the first appearance of William, whose son is Thomas that is the title character. The Va State Library used to have a lendable copy. A couple of books that have come out since that one have some erroneous information in them-data was not all documented, spellings were incorrect, etc. James Aldridge was my husband's grandfather. Will share with you if you wish. My husband has a couple of questions for you: What is your basis for Sarah Elizabeth Hawkins being born in Amissville, VA? Her death record states that she was born in Hughes River, VA which is right on the border of Rappahannock, Culpeper and near Madison County. Her family may have lived in any of those three counties and had a Hughes River address. This is the area in which the Hawkins family resided (Hughes River.) Then he also would like to know the basis of the comment that "Tthe battle was Picketts Charge," if we are reading that comment correctly, with regard to Walter Hamden Simms? I am so pleased that you posted the children of Charles and Damaris, as well as Charles's parents and grandparents. Also the data on their first daughter. Thank you so much for sharing that information. Perhaps it is time for us to email privately for sharing. I cannot send you a printed form like you sent as I have never entered the Simms data in my software program. Too busy with other lines, for which we have no printed books. I do have some of the Hawkins line in FTM. Tosca EuroCastles@aol.com wrote: > I can attest to that. 2. Shelvy K Miller
    3. Sharon Sorry nothing on Deborah Roberts except she was married to George W. Harper. She was the mother of my husband's great grandmother Anne Eliza Harper. Anne is buried in Bethel Methodist Cemetary in Lucketts, VA. Maybe Deborah is too. Anyone have records of that cemetary? I have no dates on Deborah except her marriage to G.W.Harper October 30, 1837. He was born 1813 so if she was 20 yrs. at marriage maybe born 1817 that just speculation. Shelvy
