Dear Susan: What a kind offer. I am interested in any info on Nelson S. Hutchison (1793-1825) particularly in Fauquier County. Also, William Adams (abt1796-1846) in Fauquier Co. Anything would be helpful and thank you for your time. Good Morning Susan, When you have time, could you please look for my TOWELL and ODEN ancesters?? Thank you very much! Evelyn in Oregon
I am trying to find out about Mercer Brown's (brn 1740 in Chester CO, PA: moved to Loudoun Co about 1743) wife Sarah (maybe Piggot). They were married about 1764. He was Quaker, she was not. He was disowned by the Quaker organization because of the marriage, but both were soon readmitted. The family moved to Georgia in 1784 then to Ohio in 1805. I've had several sources say Sarah's last name was probably Piggot--but I've never found any *official* record of that name. Nor have I found any record of the marriage. (Apparently they eloped.) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance - Get real-time stock quotes http://finance.yahoo.com
Susan, Thanks for your generous offer. Would you please check for a marriage of David Carty/McCarty about 1780 in your marriage books for Berkeley, Fauquier, and Frederick Counties. David moved around a lot during the war, and I'm not sure where he met his bride. Do any of the Shenandoah Books have surname indexes, could you look up the surnames FETZER and/or GLASCOCK/GLASSCOCK or specifically Robert Thrift FETZER m. 13 NOV 1896 Leslie Lee GLASCOCK. Hi, Is anyone familiar with Newfold Schoolhouse? I came across a reference to it while reading a civil war diary about Loudoun and Fauquier Counties. The entry referred to Col. Mosby hiding all night at Newfold Schoolhouse. Can anyone tell me where that is or was located and give me some general information? This would be in 1864. Thanks. Susan B. Chasing: Pearces, McArtors, Bradfield, etc., etc.
Hello, I am looking for information on a Gibson family. The only names that I have are the daughters and a son. The son was named Alford Gibson, no date, the daughters were Rosana Gibson, born 5/12/1821 in Louden County, Va., Rosella Gibson, no date, married Manley Washington Rusk, they had a daughter named Alcinda, this seems to be a popular family name, as Rosana and John Hazel States also had a daughter and a granddaughter named Alcinda. And the last daughter, Rosetta, no info. on her. I would like to know how to go about finding the names of their parents. Any information would be helpful. Thank you, Joan States Peacor
Ok, let's see here. Rawleigh Chinn appointed guardian of their two daughters Lucy Tarpley Chinn and Elizabeth Travers Chinn. Lucy married William Beveridge; Elizabeth married John Wilson. The slaves were to be given to those girls by their mother Frances Tarpley Chinn who had been lent those slaves by her sister Lucy (Tarpley) Jones. Frances married Rawleigh Chinn, Lucy married Lodswick Jones. These agricultural papers of Daniel Wilson and George C. Wilson (d. 1838) which include an affidavit 1826 concerning MATT. John Wilson died 1821 and Elizabeth in 1834 so this John Wilson could have been a brother to Daniel and George. I show John died in Middleburg VA which is Loudoun Co but not record of that. I have no record of a Webster. John Wilson and Elizabeth had a daughter, Lucy Jones Wilson but I show her married to Ferdinand Crebs 1826. She was b. 1803 and d. 1879 in White Co. IL. Since the affidavit was dated 1826 and that was the year she married, doubt it was her. I'm sure there is something here, but I show no Webster so can't help you there. If Lucy had the slaves 1st, and probably upon her death - gave, lent.... whatever the slaves to her sister Elizabeth during her lifetime. Lucy died in 1788 so Elizabeth then had them until her death in 1794. So she had them 6 years. Then the affidavit is dated 1826. That is 38 years AFTER Lucy originally gave them to her sister. So it is possible, but who this Lucy Webster is, I do not know. Janean

He was married Jan. 30, 1775 to Frances Tarpley, daughter of Travers TArpley and Elizabeth Sydnor Tarpley. She died before 1794 as on Sept. 18, 1794 Rawleigh Chinn was appointed guardian (Ref. There was also one other child of Rawleigh and Frances (Tarpley) Chinn, - Samuel Chinn. Rawleigh Chinn married a second time. Feb. 9, 1797 to his cousin, Elizabeth Shearman. There were no children by this marriage. In his will of 1815, he left all his property both real and personal to his widow, during her widowhood or natural life, with a few exceptions. He left about 65 acres of land, plus a negro girl named Eliza, and household items to "my daughter, Elizabeth Wilson", and a negro woman named Judy to "my daughter Lucy Beveridge", during her lifetime after which Judy and her increase was to be sold and the money equally divided between the children of Elizabeth Wilson. At the death of Elizabeth Chinn, "my son, Samuel Chinn all the property and land I have given her during her life". Samuel was to live on and manage the farm for his step-mother and divide the proceeds. In the division of the estate of Thomas Chinn, Rawleigh Chinn had received negroes named, Basha, Baba, Dillah, Darcus and Sarah. The Leesburg Court House records show that on Feb. 14, 1785 it was ordered that Rawleigh Chinn, Sailor, be discharged from the payment of public, county and parish levies for his negro, Basha, in the future. Hi, Can anyone help me with the surname of McNier. I have a Mary McNier that is said to have married a William Elgin in 1803 in Loudoun Co. Thank you for any help you can give me. Sondra
Does anyone have a copy of the will of Rawleigh CHINN? If so, could you post it with the county, book and page # so that I can send for a copy? Thanks!! Anne ----- Original Message ----- From: JRay38s@aol.com To: VALOUDOU-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, August 28, 2002 5:02 PM Subject: Re: [VALOUDOU-L] Re: CHINN/WILSON Hmm very interesting. First of all why does EVERYONE BUT ME seem to have a copy or has had access to the History of Middleburg and The Chinn Story. Anyway... I obtained this information in my research and happened upon it. If you go to RedFox.com which is the web site to the Red Fox Inn in Middleburg and click on the HISTORY of the Inn circa 1728 it tells how it was originally Chinn's Ordinary which was established by Joseph Chinn from land given to him by his father Rawleigh. Then click down at the bottom and go to Middleburg Online or go to the home page and browse around. In Middleburg Online and the Town History it talks about Joseph selling the land to Levin Powell. I am going to have to go to my library and get a loan on the Chinn Book because everyone who as responded to my inquiries seems to have all gotten their information from the Chinn Book. Now it appears as though my Elizabeth is in there as well. I need to verify that she and John Wilson ACTUALLY married. Someone told me there was nothing in Maryland for a Chinn female. So I'm confused. I will have to write to the court records for information. But there are many places which talks about this. www.middleburgrealestate.com/sub/abtthetown.html talks all about how in 1731 Rawleigh obtained patent on 3300 acres in Northern Neck Proprietary which he passed upon his death to his son Joseph and then goes on about Chinn's Crossroads. ==== VALOUDOU Mailing List ==== To contact Listowner: Rena Worthen doreatr@rbnet.com
