    2. Marty Hiatt
    3. Perhaps the reason documentation can't be found is that St. John's Lutheran congregation was not the same as New Jerusalem. For St. John's look across the county line to Berkeley Co. (now West Virginia) or Jefferson Co. WV, (established in 1801). In 1800 Berkeley and Loudoun shared a common boundary just west of the Short Hill. Is there anyone on this list from Hagerstown? I think there might be a St. John's up that way, too. Ms. Marty Hiatt, CGRS "Document what you find, listen to what you are told, and especially, love and respect your work." 1. [VALOUDOU-L] surname Kent oath lookup
    2. Susan McIntyre
    3. Sorry Heather, There are no KENT's listed in the index of "Some of the Earliest Oaths of Allegiance in the USA". That does not mean that they did not take the Oath - simply that it is not in this particular book. Good Luck, Susan Susan, Could you check to see if there is a John KENT or a Thomas KENT or a Robert KENT listed in the Index--I know that Robert was a veteran, but know nothing else of him. John is supposed to be older, than Robert and Thomas is their father, however, he died abt 1785/6. Thank you so much. Heather Olsen Ft. Lewis WA

    3. Thank you, yes I do have a hard time and there are several, what I believe to be the branches of the same tree, but can't get past Thomas KENT and with these separate branches all using the same names, it is tough to do cross county research. But THANK YOU so much!!!! Heather > There are no KENT's listed in the index of "Some of the Earliest Oaths > of Allegiance in the USA". 1. [VALOUDOU-L] Loudoun Co. Oaths of Allegiance/Fidelity update
    2. Susan McIntyre
    3. Just to keep the list updated on my progress of attempting to find a "list of Loudoun Co. Va residents who took the Oath of Allegiance or Fidelity during the Revolutionary War"... I have contacted the following organizations and received the replies... Library of Virginia - no list in their collections Thomas Balch Library in Loudoun - no list known Circuit Court Clerk's Office of Loudoun - no list found Willow Bend books - no book on Loudoun Oaths (also searched a number of other books sites with no luck) NARA - they offer lists of early Oaths but not specifying Loudoun* ======== contacted the following but have received no reply as of yet DAR Virginia Genealogical Society Library of Congress Virginia Historical Society ========= Does anyone have any other suggestions on where to search? *note in the letter that I received from NARA they list microfilms that they have in their collection of "original and printed oaths of office taken mainly by line and staff officers of the Continental Army" they go on to add that there is also a series of oaths "taken by military officers and civilian officials of the pre-federal government". They very generously explained that the book "Some of the Earliest Oaths of Allegiance to the United States of America" by Nellie Protsman Waldmaier is an index to the described series. While searching for "the Loudoun Oaths" I stumbled across a used copy of the book so if someone on the list thinks that their ancestor may be listed in the book let me know and I will check the index - but please be aware that the information does not say where the person taking the oath resides (other than occasionally listing a state). I am a bit pressed for time so if you have not traced your family back to the 1778 period please wait until you have to request a check of the index - Thank you, Susan McIntyre

    3. Helen, I have marriage bond book for Loudoun Co. and find several Hains listed but only one which may be a good clue. Mary Jane Hains m Noah Downs Mar 6 1847 Bond was secured by Edward Hains, father of girl. They lived in Cameron Parish. This would make Mary Jane ab the same age as your ancestor, possibly his sister. Linda

    1. [VALOUDOU-L] Hains/Haines family info being sought--help!!
    2. Help! Please! I've had no "luck" locating the parents of William Henry Hains born in Loudoun Co., VA 01Jan 1825. This info is from his death record in Logan, Hocking Co., OH 27 Dec 1880 where he lived most of his life according to his pension records that include affidavits by two childhood friends. Additionally, I grew up hearing from my grandmother that she came from an old Virginia family, by the name of Hains, of course. I've been unable to figure out his parents from only this info. I am hoping someone might have records of the Hains family in VA and be able to help me. Thanks very much for anyone's response. Sincerely, Helen
