    1. [VALOUDOU-L] This is for those who have requested information from me...
    2. This message is to those who have requested information from me. Ok. I have some new rules everyone. I have been getting a lot of e-mails for requests to lookup surnames with no given names mentioned. I will not do that anymore. You have to realize that your name maybe a very common name. There could be a thousand entries listed. I had one instance where I typed up everything, and they decided that wasn't what they needed. So, I will not do that anymore. It waists my time as well as those who need information that I could give out right away. The second thing is that I will not do anymore general lookups. I want you all to be very specific on what county you are interested in. I don't think that most of you know how big some of these books can be. It takes time to look at all of them. So, please be very specific on what county you neeed. I can lookup more than one county, but I will only do one at a time. I just want this to flow smoothly. I posted to three different lists, so you can imagine all of the e-mails I have received. If you have not received an e-mail from me, I am very sorry for that. You may have requested to much information for me to be able to type it in one setting. I was going to offer to scan the information, but I can't do that either. There is to much for that. You would be better off to go to your local genealogy library to locate the books, or order them. Thank you for understanding. I'm sure that some of the professional genealogists know why I have stated all of this. I have deleted all my messages. Like I said before, you may not have been given a reply if it was not specific enough. Please feel free to write again, and don't get discouraged... because of this e- mail. Thanks in advance! Susan:)

    1. Re: [VALOUDOU-L] Map's
    2. Are their two areas named Gum Springs in Va.? My grgrandmother, Icy Blaker was born in Gum Springs,Va. While travelling in Va. we came to a crossroads that was named Gum Springs. Stopping at the little local store, gas station, etc. we were told that what we saw was Gum Springs. I wanted to do some genealogy searching re: the Blakers, but, there was nothing there. 2. Sondra, I just realized that you were the one requesting info on the map of Loudoun. If it is the Yardley Taylor map...they can only be purchased at the museum gift shop (or so we were told at the library) and now cost $25. There is a much less expensive map $5 which is folded and easy to mail but I do not know the date. The Yardley Taylor map is ca 1850. If you will give me some of the roads and land points, I will look for your James property to see if this is the map. A gentleman is also plotting landowners of 1860 and has completed a few districts in the southeastern area of Loudoun. I saw the name of David James son of Dean James. Let me know how I can help you. 1. [VALOUDOU-L] FOXES
    2. Marty Hiatt
    3. According to the 1804 land taxes, list B, Joseph Fox was a tenant [farmer] in Loudoun. He paid taxes on 99 acres from [Mr.] Asbury, 100 acres from one of the Hutchisons [I didn't extract the given name], and 135 acres from Wm. James. George Fox, of Kingwood, Hunterdon Co., died testate in 1754. According to an abstract of his will, he left survivors wife Mary, sons George, Ambrose, Absolem, Amos, Gabriel, all under age. Yet the book says exors were sons George and Gabriel. If this is your "bunch" I strongly recommend looking at original wills. I took this info from p. 120 of Documents Relating to the Colonial History of the State of New Jersey, First Series, Vol. XXXII, i.e., calendar of NJ wills, etc. Vol. III 1751-1760, by A. Van Doren Honeyman, Heritage Books, Bowie, Md. Ambrose wandered off to the Valley. In 1791 he (or another Ambrose Fox) was in Rockingham Co., Va. You can find him in the minutes books abstracted by Levinson. An Ambrose Fox paid personal property taxes in Loudoun 1798-1804. Could you have substituted her name that was familiar with the heirs? James is a name that I would expect to find in that area. 3. Hi SuzyQ, Thanks so much for your reply. The work that you are doing for everyone on this site is just incredible! I cannot imagine not having you or all of the other volunteers out there to help us. There would be a zillion "brick walls". Regarding my query: I found out that Mary Hutchi(n)son died before 1804; as the story goes, Amos remarried and left Louden County and went west to Nelson County, KY. He was from the "New Jersy" line of Fox's. So, for now, I guess I am going to have to set aside Amos and Mary. I believe my George W. Fox of the 1830 Boone County, KY census is from that New Jersy line, and as you know there were a bunch. George W. Fox died in Switzerland County, IN in April, 1850 and the IN State death record listed him as being 66 years old, a farmer and from VA. Given his age, he would have been born circa 1884. I know that I have seen info regarding a George Fox that was born in 1884 in VA, but I don't recall how I came about that information. As for the infamous Amos of Louden County, his brother, Gabriel, is the one that owned several mills in that area. From what I understand, he bought his brothers out and took over. They all scattered after that! So, I just don't have any counties to work with in VA, but again, I want to thank you for all of your hard work. Have a great day, and a better tomorrow! God's blessings...
