    3. Unfortunately in all my Chinn research I have never seen the Harle/Harrell name. My Chinn family was mostly in the Lancaster area and were Planters and large land owners of some 3300 acres sons receiving 500 a. each some of which land became Middleburg, Va. Loudoun Co., I have no information on any Chinn's outside of Loudoun Co. area. There are hundreds of Chinns maybe someone will see this. ----- Original Message ----- From: "G. 1. Point of Rocks - Catholic Church graves: Cross, Nichols, Dean, Bush, Funey(Hill)
    2. Fellow Genealogists - for families related to both sides of the Potomac River, up and down the B&O and C&O migration lines - Recently, St. James Catholic Church building on Commerce St. along the railroad tracks and near the Masonic Hall in Point of Rocks, was demolished along with the rest of the houses in that area (remaining only the Masonic Hall) just after the History in Motion May 7 event. However, prior to any removals, Maryland State Transit Authority required a final archeological study of all the area before any disturbance of the ground would be made for the expansion of the MARC parking lot. The firm of John Milner Associates, Inc. of Alexandria, Va. During what was considered a routine final survey and test dig of the area last September by JMA, Inc. - 4 unmarked graves were located in the back of the old Catholic Church. All construction plans for the parking lot were put on hold until the identification of these burials could be made and remains re-interred. Since that time, Sarah Traum, a researcher for this firm has been able to identify 4 possibilities for the burials from records of the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Brunswick, St. Mary's Catholic Churchs in Petersville, funeral home records, and several local residents who remember either the graves or talk about the graves. A serious attempt is now underway to locate any families of these burials before the planned re-interment at St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery near Buckeystown at the end of this month, June 2005. The following is a list of those JMA has identified, with census information they could find about the families. If you have any knowledge of any family member or background about the following people, please contact me at your first convenience so that the consulting firm can be informed, and family members can be on hand for the services. I have been selected as the local contact point, but if you would like to talk directly to JMA, please let me know and I will forward it to you. Thank you - and looking forward to learning more about this church and families for these possible burials. For more information about the individual suspected burial families, please contact me. If you could put as much information in an email - it would help to make sure I have the information correct, but if you want to call, please feel free at any time. Pepper Scotto 301-834-9907 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Information from JMA, Inc. - Sarah Traum to Pepper Scotto - draft Potential burials at St. James As St. James was a mission church, any records for activities at St. James would likely be located among the records of other churches, such as St. John in Frederick, St. Joseph in Buckeystown, or other nearby churches. Burial records from the late nineteenth century for St. Mary’s in Petersville Maryland (a town approximately six miles northwest of Point of Rocks) list five burials at Point of Rocks: September 18, 1895 Jessie Cross 13 years old, white “buried in Point of Rocks church [Lot]” (Burial Record of St. Mary’s Cemetery (BRSMC):12-13) Thomas-Elizabeth Cross family in POR in 1880, possible parents August 21, 1898 Charles Nichols 2 yrs. 8 mos., burnt buried in Point of Rocks Cemetery (BRSMCL:14-15) Charles-Lillie Nichols family in POR in 1900, possible parents - "station baggage" December 31, 1898 Noble Samuel Deane (no age or cause of death given) buried in Point of Rocks (BRSMCL:14-15) Wife Jane - and C&O boatman in 1860, later in 1870 to Washington Co., MD, 1880 in POR - children: Wm A., Noble Oscar, M. Effie. Member of Co B Loudoun Rangers - most probable identification for this burial. March 24, 1899 George Bush Typhoid Pneumonia Cemetery – “Point of Rocks – grave blessed in Prot. Cem.” (BRSMCL:16-17) George Bush was evidently not buried on the St. James property, as his grave was blessed in a Protestant cemetery. April 21, 1899 Margaret N. Funey 5 mos., bronchitis Cemetery – Point of Rocks Charles-Emma Funey from Frederick District in 1900 on census - with bro-in-law, William Hill, telegraph operator, living in same household - possible identification. ++++++++++ St. James Church closed for the last time in September 1978, and the two lots that are connected with the church were sold to Basil Whitaker of Point of Rocks in 1984. If you, or anyone you may know, has information about any of these possible burials, or other possible people who could be or have been buried in this graveyard, please contact me at your earliest convenience. This is a good time to compile a history of this church and the congregation. Anyone with knowlege of past members of this church, also, please contact me. Thank you, Pepper Scotto 301-834-9907

A man named Baldwin Harle etc. who bought lots in Abingdon, Va. about 1780 was supposed to have been raised by a Chinn family of Northern Va. Chinn was a food merchant who traveled through Abingdon, Va. and over in the mountains of western NC. Baldwin Harle lived in VA. and Tennessee and his descendents later moved to Texas. 1. Posting Old Court Cases Online
    2. Hi Folks, If it's legal to do so, is there a place online where we can post old Loudoun County court cases, perhaps pre-1900 or maybe earlier, in either verbatim format, abstract, or scanned graphic of a photocopy? Does the Loudoun County site that's a part of the US Genweb site provide space for this? Valerie

He had my Harrison Jenkins as the son of Elijah Jenkins and his wife Rebecca Chilton, but a Loudoun County chancery record shows that actually it was Harrison Jenkins' wife, Delilah, that was the daughter of Elijah Jenkins and his wife Rebecca Chilton. 3. Susan I'm sure we have probably talked before but you have me very curious now about the Noland/Ball line you mention here. I am working on my Wilson/Chinn line and am investigating all connected families looking to break my brick wall. I have probably worked harder on piecing together the Powell and Noland lines more so than some of my own because I believed from the start they connected and have found that they have. But then again, back then the families were so large we are all related I think. I'm curious about this James May Ball Jr. I show Rosalie in my database but with no husband. I am a Ball descendant as well. I show Rosalie's parents as Rosalie Haxall and George/Cuthbert Powell Noland. Not sure why I have two names for him. Her grandfather was R. Barton Haxall. Children I have for them are Lloyd, Barton, Charlotte, George/Cuthbert, Rosalie, Katherine. I found Dr. Lloyd Noland while investigating his great grandfather Lloyd Noland that married Ann Whiting "Nancy" Powell and Elizabeth Winn Smith who was the daughter of Sarah Beveridge sister to William Beveridge that married Lucy Chinn sister to my Elizabeth that married John Wilson ------------ Confused??????? I knew these families all connected and hoped it would lead to more Wilsons...... (as Pat Duncan is laughing at me and she knows why..... stop it Pat) LOL Anyway, I found that Maj. Burr Powell Noland m. Susan Chaplain Wilson but it wasn't until I got the Tavenner Collection that I found out she was the daughter of John Knox Wilson and Susan Chapline(sp) John Knox Wilson is the son of William R. Wilson and Jane King and brother to Judge William Wilson who was an Illinois Supreme Court Justice. I believe they are the nephews to my John Wilson and Elizabeth Chinn. Now I'm on a KING mission as well as BOYD both of whom seemed to maybe come out of Berkeley Co. Martinsburg. WV. I have brought all these families together in a very large circle but just can't quite connect the ends. SO all that being said, let me tell you my BALL connection so I can understand where this James May Ball Jr. came from. I descend from ESTHER BALL and RAWLEIGH CHINN. I am also a TRAVERS and a TARPLEY, PAYNE, MITCELL ........... if they lived in the Northern Neck it appears I am related. LOL. 1. Death of Robert Moore
    2. Dottie Himes
    3. I do not know if this Loudoun Co, VA list has heard the sad news about Bob Moore, the Genealogist, in Lexington, KY who passed away on May 27, 2005. He worked with so many of the families that were from VA and migrated to KY and always willing to take time to help everyone. If this list has not received the information, look below and you can read his nice obituary As many of you know, Robert Moore is also the man who wrote the great book BLOOMFIELD, CHAPLIN AND FAIRFIELD (KY) A HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF NORTHEASTERN NELSON CO, KY. See below my email to the Nelson KY list. Sincerely Dottie Porter Himes Dottie Himes Lewisport, KY 42351 [email protected] I love my Family, Genealogy is Addictive but Fun: SURNAMES: Heim, Himes, Ahlers, Shroyer, Swadener /Burch, Clements, Hagan, Hutchins, Porter /Hayden, Mulligan,Young, and many more. -------Original Message------- From: Dottie Himes Date: 05/31/05 14:19:19 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [KYNELSON-L] Robert Moore We just arrived home after 2,019 miles to Breckenridge, TX for our granddaughters high school graduation last weekend. I downloaded my emails and noticed subject Robert Moore and looked at it. Like everyone, I was deeply grieved to find out that Bob had passed away and tears ran down my face. He was such a good and kind man, a wonderful Genealogist that went out of his way to help everyone with ancestors in Virginia and Kentucky. We, too, had never met, but I was hoping for that opportunity this summer as he wanted to get over to Madisonville, KY to look for some more information on the Porter family. We met on the internet over a year ago when I sent in an inquiry about my ggg grandfather Philip Porter b abt 1754 in VA and wife Nancy Ann Brent from Virginia that migrated to Shelby Co, KY, and later to Spencer Co, KY. Some of Philip Porter's children lived around Bloomfield and one was written up in his marvelous book about Bloomfield, KY which I am so happy to have. He helped me immensely with new information on the Duncan, Peyton, Russell, and Porter families that gave me so many clues to maybe one day to be able to find Philip's parents in Virginia. We also found out with sharing that we were cousins through the Vowels and Hutchins families. Bob told me about his struggle with cancer, and my prayers went out for him daily. He was such a positive man, and felt that he had beaten the cancer, never complained, and never stopped helping everyone with the vast knowledge that he had about VA, and KY and all the families. It was just a few weeks ago, that I got his last email verifying some information that I had sent on the Porter Family. My sincere sympathy goes to his wife, Ann, which he talked about lovingly. We will all miss Bob Moore, each in our own way, and miss all his emails with a history lesson in many of them. May he rest in peace. Sincerely, Dottie (Porter) Himes Dottie Himes Lewisport, KY 42351 [email protected] . -------Original Message------- From: [email protected] Date: 05/28/05 08:18:53 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [KYNELSON-L] Robert Moore If you would like to enter a condolence online at the funeral home for Bob Moore, here is a link: http://www.milwardfuneral.com/index.cfm/message_center.html Visitation is at the W. 3. It varies. Most are from the 1800's, but some of the surnames might go back a little farther. Realize that this is not detailed research. Tavenner attempted to make a database of Loudoun residents prior to 1900, but the information rarely gives sources for his listings. And the holdings at Balch are not the original notes, but photocopies, so some of the writing was too little for a readable copy. Here is a example of what it provided (this is all the information provided). Surname: RINGO 1. Cornelius R. (1753-1836 [DAR]) m. Sarah Morgan [DAR], m. ????? [too light to read clearly] fl 1780 ..... 1775 to the Cam. Psh with Elijah Major 2. Philip R. ( ) son to 3: 1775 to the Cam Psh: m. Pegge (fl 1779) grantor 1779 Bull Run 3. Henry R. ( ) .. lessee 1771 Piney Br. Bull Run road o'seer 1769 4. Saml. R. ( fl 1771) son to 3 [note: fl means found living] The above information may have been based, in part, on land deeds. From "Index to Loudoun Co Land Deed Book A-Z, 1757-1800" by Pat Duncan: Bk:Pg: H:158 Date: 10 Jun 1771 Received in court: 10 Jun 1771 Enoch LLOYD of Philadelphia Pa to William JAMES of Loudoun. Lease of 202ac in Cameron Parish. Wit: George DUREN, Henry RINGO, Elijah MAJOR. Bk:Pg: H:307 Date: 19 Nov 1771 RcCt: 9 Dec 1771 Gent. John RALLS Sr of Stafford Co Va to Henry RINGO (sons Philip & Samuel RINGO) of Loudoun. Lease for life of 175ac in Cameron Parish on Piney Branch of Bull Run adj George ADAMS. Wit: George DUREN, Thomas DUREN, Peter RINGO. 3. Harold, your point is well taken. I would certainly go with the reference that is well documented with primary source material--which Mrs. Ball's book is not.
