    3. For future reference, this book is one of many listed on the Loudoun Co USGENWEB volunteer look-up page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~valoudou/lookups.htm The Militia Journals were county militia records for that time period, primarily of company rosters and fines for missed musters. There are few references to any personal information. From the Introduction: " All able bodied male citizens over the age of eighteen were required to enroll in the militia. Men who missed drills or musters, and who failed or refused to obey orders could be fined seventy five cents for each offense. Habitual offenders could be fined up to three dollars. .. any man, on his way to some other place, who lingered in the county for more than a year, became subject to militia duty, at least until he moved on. There were few exemptions from militia service, those being for age, illness, or disability, extreme hardship, and a few for some in essential occupations." Page 19: A Roster of Capt. James White's Company, Class No. 9 [1794] - Moses Durnell, Matthias Anderson, Adam Wishart, Francis McKamie, Michael Rufe, James Gregory, Philip Addleman. 3. I was wondering if anyone has access to a book entitled "Loudoun County, Va Militia Journals 1793-1829" by Don Blincoe. I am looking at pages 16 &17 and am wondering if this is regarding the war of 1812, or does this have to do with the Revolution War? I believe the person I am looking at is Francis McKamie who was in the 56th regiment under Capt. James White, Class #9. Just need to confirm I am reading this correctly. Thanks for any info. Chris

    3. For an aerial photo, I liked this site best of the options given. I could actually see my farm out here in the country in Virginia. The terraseerver site takes a long time to load on a dialup service (our only choice) and it seemed to not bring up exactly what area I wanted. The earth.google site looks like it is a program to download to one's computer... so Thank you, Janean! 3. Ron - Many cell phones today have a GPS feature that can give you coordinates, that is if where you are going can get a signal from a tower. But, I would borrow one if you know of someone who has one especially if you aren't going to need to reuse it often. Also, you can go to various Satelitte websites to look up an address or area of interest and if you can locate the property, you can record the GPS cooridnates for that area from the image page. Also, I know that the Garman brand is a good one, as my Avionics Tech Rep told me that the Engineer who created his company used to work for them when they were King Radio Corp. who produced Radio & Navigation Systems for the Military & Civillian market, and this Engineer tried to get them to produce low end units for the public and they said,"NO"; so he went off and started the Garman (sp?) Company and they make great Civilian GPS Units as well as other equipment. Happy Searching, James A. 1. Would like to Hear from any Janney
    2. My Grandfather was Robert Janney. He was the son of Burwell and Mary Radford Janney who lived in the Floyd and Franklin Virginia area. He enlisted in the Civil War and some way ended up in Zanesville, Ohio when the war was over. He would not tell my mother or my aunt anything about his family. He did state that his family had a Mill on their farm, and that they were neither rich nor poor. (what ever that meant.) His gandparents were Moses and Margaret Dixon Janney and his greatgrandparents were Isaac and Hannah Janney. Isaac and Hannah moved from Loudoun County to Franklin Co., Va. Isaac was of the Quaker Faith but, Hannah was not. Isaac was the son of William and Elizabeth Moon Janney. [email protected]

    3. Hello Gary, I don't know if this is your line, but I ran across a listing for Thomas Stone and Francis Stone, enumerated together on the 1772 Tithables list for Loudon Co. Additionally, the entry enumerates "N. Dick, Jem, Frank, Zucher, Moll, Lettice." I believe N. designated Negroes,(listers correct me, if I am wrong) and these people have no surnames listed behind the names stated. So, Thomas and Francis are listed as paying 8 tithes that year. On the 1774 Tithables list Part II for Loudon Co., Thomas and Francis Stone are enumerated together again. In addition, listed with them are: Robt Dales, "N. Jem, Dick, Lett, Frank [and] Moll." Again, they paid 8 tithes. Jacob Stone is listed on the 1780 Tithables list. I only have a few pages of tithables lists, so please do not conclude folks aren't on years not mentioned. I only have pages on which my Streetman family members occur. Good luck Heidi -----Original Message----- From: fuzzface <[email protected]> Sent: Jul 20, 2005 5:52 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [VALOUDOU-L] Stone family Hi I am new to the list and was wondering if anyone has any info on a Fielding Alexander Stone born in Loudoun County,Virginia March of 1815 died July 1896 in Guernsey County, Cumberland, Ohio.
