Its a shame that if they are going to "use" everyone else's work that they at least get it right. Stupid to steal wrong information. LOL I just checked it out, and found huge mistakes. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 14, 2005 9:18 AM Subject: Re: [VALOUDOU-L] VA ,D.C,MD,PA,NJ ,TX,GA,NC, NY,GENEALOGIES > Don't be too shocked at this response. I agree with the criticism of the copiers ('microwave genies') and it does kinda irk one to see his/her work claimed by others, often replete with inaccuracies and misspellings. But it kinda goes with the territory, and after forty years at it, I grudgingly accept it, for I still want to keep the door open to help the good folk! But, GRRRRR anyway....LOL Please try to keep your sense of humor. Erik P Conard --Denver
Don't be too shocked at this response. I suspect it is the typical response of someone who constantly takes information off the Loudoun, Fairfax, and other mailing lists and adds it to their pages. You would be hard pressed to find original research on this persons pages, but if you have ever submitted information to this or other Virginia lists, your research is probably there. It is hard to add to information posted if you didn't do any work on it. I find much of my research on this pages, and have, in fact, ceased posting to the lists as freely as I did in the past because of this individual. In the future I will gladly share privately, but not publicly. The parts of my research that I want on the web are there, but under family names, monitored by myself or other family members. When we find errors we correct them and new original research is done constantly. No one should ever mind sharing with family members, no matter how distant. Finding new cousins is what it is all about. What fun! But after ten+ years working at this, anyone would feel a certain pride of their work, and a certain amount of, not really ownership, but maybe the right to have a modicum of control over our own work. Finding our work on someone's pages when we have sent very little, or nothing to them, maybe haven't even corresponded with them, kind of grates. I challenge all of you who have shared family information on these lists to check out the mentioned pages and see what is there. If I am wrong, I apologize. If I am right, it is time to bring this into the open. Hello list members. I am new to the list. I was wondering if anyone has any information regarding an Elizabeth Hubbard MCCARTY b: 1772 in Loudoun Co., VA? She supposedly married a William YEARY and they lived in Lee Co., VA. William is said to have been born in York, PA in 1770. I do not have any info regarding Elizabeth's famiy. William YEARY is the s/o Benedict M. YEARY and Maria HARTEN. I have not found any info as to where Elizabeth and William were married. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Teresia F. Scott Hamilton, VA Genealogy, it's a family thing. Surnames: Sanders/Saunders, Smith, Cathcart, Jones, Combs, Barker, Hawn, Dunlevy, Clegg, Huckleberry, Yeary, Wallace, Russell, McCarty, Lowe, Legg, American Indian Places: Indiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kentucky, Ireland
the Steinbrenner/Stoneburner reference to Catherine as "Catherine Caty" was an obvious attempt to communicate the nickname "Caty" along with the formal given name, but the writer did not know exactly how to say it in writing. "Caty" like "Maggie" for Margaret, "Polly" for Mary, Martha, "Nancy" for Ann, Agnes, etc. were commonly used nicknames which often were mistaken for middle names in an era which such were uncommon. Jacob Curtis Stoneburner married Charlotte Elizabeth Conard, a g-g-g aunt of mine, and they lived in Baltimore. Have data. Good luck! Erik P Conard --Denver--
Hi Joey....Although I have been researching this family line for almost a half century, very little came to light regarding the connection of JACOB & ANNA EVA's daughters, ANNA MARGARET & SUSANNA STEINBRENNER/STONEBURNER and their subsequent marriages to ADAM WOLF until I located some data on the internet. May need further verification, of course, but it is at least a place to start. This is what I found there: ADAM WOLF, SR. was born ABT 1732 in Weisbaden, Germany and died ABT 1804 in Fauquier Co., VA. (Mar. CATHERINE CATY....but wondering if the "Caty" might be a knickname for Catherine, and not a surname?) There are eleven children listed for them: 1. SUSANNA WOLF. 2. HENRY WOLF was b. 2 August 1755 in Loudoun Co., VA., and d. 27 May 1834 in Columbiana Co.,OH. He mar. JULIANNA BUZZARD. 3. GEORGE WOLF was born 23 August 1762 in Maryland. 4. JOHANN ADAM WOLF w as b. 11 May 1764 in Fauquier Co.,VA and d. 11 Mar. 1851 in Steuben Co., IN. He mar. ANNA MARGARET STEINBRENNER 7 Oct. 1787 in Lovettsville, Loudoun Co., VA. She was born 5 Mar. 1768 in Pike Twp., Berks Co., , PA.,and d. 10 Dec. 1795 in Loudoun Co., VA. He mar. 2nd SUSANNAH STONEBURNER 10 Mar. 1796 in Lovettsville, Loudoun Co., VA, She was b. 2 May 1775, Loudoun Co., VA, and d. 5 Jun 1845 in Butler Twp., Columbiana Co., OH. Both wives were daughters of JACOB & ANNA EVA STEINBRENNER. 5. MARY WOLF was b. ABT 1765. She married GEORGE FAWLEY 23 Feb. 1791. (I have a lot o FAWLEY/FAULEY & ANSEL data from Loudoun Co.,VA to Muskingum/Perry Cos.,OH...if anyone needs this...... Rosalie) 6. JOHN WOLF was b. 28 Feb. 1767 in Maryland. He mar. ABIGAIL. 7. JACOB WOLF was b. 1 Nov. 1774 in Maryland, and d. 21 Dec. 1856 in Ashland Co., OH. He mar. MARIA MAGDALENA MASON 4 Jan. 1798 in Fauquier Co., VA. She was b. 5 Jan 1777 in VA and d. 20 May 1858 in Ashland Co., OH. 8. CATHERINE CATY WOLF was b. ABT 1776 in Virginia. She mar. PHILIP TRANOR 8 Dec. 1794 in Fauquier Co., VA. 9. ANDREW WOOLF was b. 3 Dec. 1778 in Fauquier Co., VA, and . 30 May 1859 in Fauquier Co., VA. He mar. SOPHIE L. MICHAEL 4 May 1803 in Fauquier Co., VA. She was b. 1 Oct. 1782, and d. 28 Feb. 1851. 10. She was b. 8 May 1791 in Manchester, Carroll Co., MD, and died 27 May 1864 in Columbiana Co., OH. Hope this helps you, Joey, and others who may see it on the Loudoun Co.,VA message board. If any glaring errors will be glad to review for accuracy, of course. ROSALIE LUCAS HARTINGER Gulfport, Florida

Genealogical Society FRECOGS proudly presents for the Community and the Maryland & Virginia Genealogical Societies Joint Conference ”From Maryland to Virginia and Back Again” A Banquet Program featuring Joel Achenbach, writer for the Washington Post & National Geographic Society and author of “George Washington’s Potomac and the Race to the West - The Grand Idea Following the theme of the joint genealogical conference - migration between of Maryland and Virginia - we are presenting an evening centered around their border - our Potomac River. Frederick County, Maryland’s colonial ‘front door,’ the Patowmach River, is the main feature on all 18th Century MId-Atlantic maps - guiding the way West for explorers, traders, and early settlers. Mr. Achenbach will relate early sagas surrounding this historic river, through George Washington’s eyes. Returning after years as commander of the Continental Army, General Washington journeyed and worked to find the best route to the new West beyond the mountains. He culminated in a breathtaking scheme, a Grand Idea, to transform the Potomac River into a commercial artery and, as Washington believed, would bind our new country. Early explorers and frontiersmen were aided by the improvements of Washington ’s 18th century Potomac Company, later evolving into the our own C&O Canal. Commerce, families, and documentation have followed the Potomac up and down for more than 300 years. Come learn just how many spellings ‘Potomac’ can be. It is of little wonder that historians and genealogists will be keenly interested in learning more clues for their own historical research and interest from this well annotated history book. In addition - this evening will provide: displays from local historical organizations, book sales, sharing tables, music, demonstrations, sales, and Mr. Achenbach’s book signing. Two special living history presentations will be on hand during the Wine & Cheese Social Hour. · Raleigh Boaze from Rosemont, MD will represent the life of an 18th Century backcountry woodsman. · Doris E. Dear Jamie, Suggest you call the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Leesburg and see if they will look at their index for your man. If there is still proerty owned in PA, the will might also have been filed there, so call the Clerk in Bucks County as well. Also, search the Genforum message boards, the ancestry/roiotsweb message boards, the USGenWeb to see if anyone has possibly transcribed as will and sent it online. Hope some of this helps.
