    3. Teresia, It probably stands for appraisement, meaning the inventory and appraisement of the assets of the estate. These typically do not have any genealogical information in them, but sometimes allow tracking of slaves from parent to child. 1. Land disputes

    3. Someone mentioned land disputes: The Benjamin Rust land was in dispute for years and years. But this land was near Upperville & Paris. (Closer to Upperville) I don't think that would be in the Cameron Parish area. However, parts of it extended into Loudoun Co, VA. He died 21 June 1834. I have this information, thanks to one of the List members. Oddly, these records were found in Frederick Co, VA archives. She so kindly sent the pages to me. Those involved with this controversy, which was not settled until after many of the "principals involved" (Benj's children) were dead: James & Sarah (Nee?) Rust Nancy & Uriah Glasscock Elizabeth & Jonathan Carter Katherine & Lemuel Hutchison Benjamin & Francis (Davis) Rust Sarah & Robert Latham (Sarah dsp) Emma & Stephen Hicks John Singleton Rust was a son; but he died unwed. He died 27 Jan, 1834; shortly before his father's death. Shirley Starks [email protected]

    3. Thanks to one of the "Listers", I have a copy of a Rust family Land suit. This record was found in FREDERICK Co. VA archives. Yet the land was in both Loudoun and Fauquier Counties. 1. land "dispute"
    2. Marty Hiatt
    3. I think "dispute" might have been a poor choice of words. When Loudoun was established, (cut off from Fairfax Co) in 1757, the eastern boundary was Difficult Run. This put families who had always lived in Fairfax, and were used to doing business under Fairfax County jurisdiction, under the auspices of Loudoun. After 40 years (who knows what went on) it was decided to move the eastern boundary to Sugarland Run, thereby "returning" a strip of land to Fairfax Co. See Charles Poland, From Frontier to Suburbia, p. 15. There must have been action in both courts for this to happen. If you really want to know, read the court records. 2. I do not have the actual boundaries of this tract but it includes the area that is Pleasant Valley today and includes Cub Run. In colonial times it was in Cameron Parish. I believe that it originally was set off in Loudoun and then when Washington D C was set as the capitol this expanse of land was given back to Fairfax. I am not sure how many times portions of it have gone back and forth between the counties but I know that in the 1930's that section was in Fairfax and then in the early 50's at least a portion of it was given back to Loudoun. The area in dispute was never in Fauquier and I have never heard of a land dispute between those 2 counties My mother grew up and graduated from Herndon High School in 1949 and yet most of my entire life it has been considered Loudoun County Susan

    3. Not sure but hmmm, could it be between Loudoun and Fauquier? That would have been the Chinn and Powell land dispute. I believe off Bellhaven Rd is where the Carter House is located and was once name Mt. Defiance? Or was it Mt. Recovery? Can't recall from memory right this second which one it was. I think Mt. Recovery burned. Anyway this was a very well document court battle. I am of the Chinn line and have information on it not ready at hand this minute.
