I, too, extend my congratulations to you, Pat, on your award. Your books of indexes and abstracts provide an easy access to the information that can be found in old court and church records in Loudoun and other counties. By publishing your books, genealogical researchers are made aware of the data that otherwise might stay hidden in the court house. Genealogy is a very enriching hobby/vocation that broadens the intellect in many areas, such as, history, family history, biology, genetics, psychology, geography, cartography, land ownership, computer science, and much more. Genealogy provides countless hours of enjoyment, relaxation, and education. Also, genealogy enriches by providing opportunities for association with many fine, interesting people. By providing books that index and abstract the old records, you and others help all of us to grow in these areas. There have been many times that I have searched in one of your books and found the information I needed, which then opened up a whole new world of research to pursue. Thanks for all your work and thanks for enriching my life and the lives of many others. Valerie Gibbs

I, too, want to add my congratulations to the many you are receiving, Pat. I am one of the many, many folks you have helped, and believe me, there could be no award great enough for someone who so unselfishly gives of her time and expertise. We truly appreciate you! Brenda in Altavista, VA
Wow Pat - congratulations on your well deserved award and promotion! I must mention though that I would have thought that there would have been more of a progression from Typing Fool to Queen of the Lookups. Perhaps gradual steps from Fool - like Genealogy Jester to Minister of Microfilms, then Documentation Diva advancing to Paperbound Princess - all before reaching the supreme title of Queen.... Oh well however you reached such a lofty title - it and the prestigious Loudoun History Award were clearly earned by your outstanding work and extraordinary generosity. Congratulations Pat! I was there and was so pleased to meet your sister, who by the way, needs to be encouraged to get into this thing called genealogy. I wish you could have been there to enjoy it. Through Ms Duncan's efforts in aiding those of us who wade through the pitfalls of genealogy to record only the truth, she certainly has at least slowed those who seem determed to rewrite history The fact that Marty Hiatt, herself, has included her note of appreciation adds a further sheen to Pat's award. To all those who have extended congratulations on my recent Loudoun History Award, many thanks. My work is indeed a labor of love. The people I have encountered along the way have made my efforts most rewarding. To have been nominated by Bronwen Souder and introduced at the ceremony by Marty Hiatt, both past recipients whom I hold in high regard, was quite an honor. The Thomas Balch Library, the host of the event, is an outstanding library with a superb staff. I must also recognize the Albuquerque Special Collections Library and the Library of Virginia whose services make my work possible. Unfortunately, living in New Mexico, I was unable to attend in person, but had my sister accept it in my stead. She remarked how friendly everyone was - something I have long known about genealogy people. I will continue to abstract Loudoun County records and hope that these works will provide information for all who seek their heritage in this beautiful historic Virginia location. Hi Bob, Heard from Susan too this morning about the award. Thanks for the appreciation. I was truly honored to receive the award. Unfortunately, I was unable to receive it in person, but had my sister (who lives in Alexandria) accept it in my stead. She remarked how friendly everyone was - something I have long noticed about genealogy people. Marty and I have been friends for years and mutually assist each other. She has now moved my status from TYPING FOOL to QUEEN OF THE LOOKUPS, which I take as quite a compliment. Dear Readers, Yesterday Patricia B. Duncan was honored (in absentia) with a Loudoun History Award. Thomas Balch Library selects 4 special people every year, and recognizes their contribution to the history of Loudoun County. I don't need to tell you OOTDs how helpful our Queen of Look-ups always is, but I was amazed when her nominator, Bronwen Souders, totaled Pat's efforts and said her publications amounted to 4,313 pages of information used by local researchers and OOTDs (out-of-town descendants).
