    1. Jane BRADEN HOUGH
    2. One of my dead ends is Jane BRADEN (ca 1765 - ca 1831) who married John HOUGH. I would very much appreciate any clues that will help me determine her parents and how/if she fits in with the other BRADENs in Loudoun. An outline of what I have on her family follows. Thanks. Sue Beach Jane Braden born circa 1765. She married John Hough, son of William Hough & Eleanor Hite, bef 24 Aug 1788 in Loudoun Co, Va. She died bef 13 Jun 1831 in Loudoun Co., Va. On 24 Aug 1788 in Waterford, Loudoun Co., Va, John & Jane were dismissed from the Fairfax Meeting for marrying out of unity. She was named as an heir in the will of her husband, John Hough on 21 Aug 1816 in Loudoun Co. She made purchases at the estate sale of her daughter, Rebecca Hough on 9 Jun 1823 in Loudoun Co. She left a will dated 15 May 1831. William Steer and William T. Hough were named executors of her estate. She also left money to Rehoboth Meeting, Loudoun Co., Virginia. Her will was probated on 13 Jun 1831 in Loudoun Co., Va. Bond was set at $1600. Security was provided by Isaac E. Steer and John Hamilton. Children of Jane Braden and John Hough were as follows: i. Charles Hough, b. 1789 in Loudoun Co., Va; m. Mary Gore. ii. Ann Hough, b. circa 1791 in Loudoun Co., Va; m. Elijah Peacock. iii. Rebecca Hough was born in 1792 in Loudoun Co., Va. She died before 9 Jun 1823 in Loudoun Co., Va. She never married. On 9 Jun 1823 in Loudoun Co., an accounting of the sale of the personal estate of Rebecca Hough shows that most of the purchases were made by family members: John Hough, Jane Hough, Harriet Hough, Elijah Peacock. Her personal property was valued at $47.75. She was mentioned as a deceased daughter in the will of Jane Hough on 15 May 1831 in Loudoun Co. iv. Elizabeth H. Hough was born in 1793 in Loudoun Co. She died on 13 Oct 1836 in Loudoun Co., Virginia. She was buried in Fairfax Meeting Cemetery, Waterford, Loudoun Co., Va. She was mentioned in the will of her mother, Jane Hough on 15 May 1831 in Loudoun Co., Virginia. She was never married. v. Jane Hough was born circa 1798 in Loudoun Co., Va. She married John Woolford on 28 Mar 1822 in Loudoun Co., Va. She was named as her married daughter in the will of Jane Hough on 15 May 1831 in Loudoun Co., Va. vi. Mary Hough, b. circa 1799 in Va; m. John Wesley Jackson. vii. John Hough, b. circa 1800 in Loudoun Co., Va; m. Elizabeth (--?--). viii. Harriet Ellen Hough, b. 11 Sep 1806 in Loudoun Co., Va; m. Curtiss Grubb. ix. William T. Hough, b. 25 Dec 1811 in Loudoun Co., Va; m. Louisa Bowersett; m. Caroline Chester.

    2. This is correct, Pat. Thanks for pointing that out. When I first saw this query, I remembered a William Williams connection in my data & went to pull it up. The family in my database is about 40 years later than the family in the query. I will be happy to post that data, if there is a researcher interested in the later line. 2. Tosca, I remember viewing old homes in Waterford,VA, just a little ways north from Leesburg,VA and running across one home built by a William Williams (if I remember correctly) and that community was started by Quakers I think around 1731. 2. Tosca Simms
    3. Hello list, I dont know where to begin. I have just found some leads in several files in World Connect area of Rootsweb and those leads have generated lots of questions. The family of William and Magaret Evans Williams supposedly moved to Loudoun in 1743, and the children's births from 1743-1760 are shown as Fairfax, Loudoun Co, VA. William and Margaret had married in 1739 in Chester Meeting House near Philadelphia, VA. They had two children when they came to Loudoun, Priscilla and Isaac. Born or baptised at Fairfax MM, I gather, are Owen 1743, Mary 1746, Richard 1749, Elizabeth, 1750, Rachel 1752, Margaret 1755, Jean 1758, and Daniel 1760. The family then moved to Cane Creek, Orange Co, now ChathamCo, NC, about 1862. Other references are Cane Creek Meeting which I gather means MM, or again, Quaker. I know I have read references to Quaker records on this list, but have no memory of how long ago they might have appeared, and at the time thought I didn't have any Quakers to search for. We live and learn, as we get older and hopefully wiser. So Marty, or Pat, or Betty, could you give me a push in the right direction to the Quaker record locations? Mary, Richard and Jean are the only ones that I haven't found any marriage location for...the others married in NC. I would be curious to know if Mary by any strange chance married in Loudoun, and/or was excommunicated for marrying an outsider of the faith. She would have been 16-18 years old when the family moved to NC, and might have stayed in Loudoun. Jean would have been too young. I'll thank you in advance for whatever you can help me with, and I'll thank you again if you do. : ) Tosca "People will never look forward to posterity who never look back to their ancestors" by Edmund Burke

    3. Bob, Thank you for your reply. That is what I thought it meant, but on this particular census the enumerator has ALL woman of a certain age range categorized as Spinster. I will check on other counties and other enumerators to see if that was the case. Teresia Scott Hamilton, VA Genealogy, it's a family thing. 3. Dottie, Have you seen this web page? http://www.barnumfamily.org/porter/ In looking at it, I cant find how to email the person who posted it. But perhaps you can figure out how to do so. Is it poosible that Philip Porter b 1706 is part of your line? Or one of his brothers? At least there is a Philip in the ancestry shown here, and that might be a good lead. I went to barnumfamily.org without the porter part, and then surnames and found this...which tells you to start looking in Maryland for the family of this Philip. http://www.barnumfamily.org/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I01162&tree=barnum One never knows how a little info will lead them do a yes or no. Good luck. Tosca, whose mother was a Lambert born in Lewisport! 3. I have some Porter's that I'm keeping an eye on because a child in my Wilson family had the middle name of Porter and trying to figure out where it came from. Samuel Porter b. 1731-1807 m. 1759 to Eva Weaver (Tighlman), children I have are Samuel and Martin. Samuel b. 1774 m. 1796 to Mary Withers w/son Samuel Porter III, b. 1799 Fauquier Co. m. 1819 to Mary Sayers Grayson d/o William Grayson and Mary Elizabeth Waggoner. These people connect to the Ball/McCarty lines. Martin b. 1762 Warrenton Fauquier Co. m. 1789 to Agatha Withers also of Warrenton.
