    1. [VALOUDOU] Looking for parents of James HUNTER, b 14 Aug 1778, PA or Loudoun Co., VA
    2. Hunter Greg
    3. Looking for parents of James HUNTER (see first name below). I believe he was born in PA, but later moved to Loudoun Co., VA., then, on or before March of 1806, he moved to Gallatin Co., KY, finally he move in December 1828 to Illiopolis, Sangamon Co., IL. Descendants from James, several Hunter families adopted naming practices and patterns, which leads me to believe his father’s name is either William or James, but only a guess. Several Hunter clan researchers show, as I have, that James was born in Loudoun County, VA., This came from a single source, Powers, John Carrol, Early Settlers of Sangamon County, 1876 (IL). This was published about 9 years after James’ death. In the last two U.S. Census, Sangamon Co., IL., 1850/60, before his death in 1867, show he was born in PA. Also, the U.S. International Marriage records, 1560-1900, show he was born in PA. Therefore, there is corroborating evidence that he was born in PA and NOT Loudoun Co., VA. My ancestors are: James Hunter; John T. Hunter; Archer Scott Hunter; Otis Lucas Hunter; Otis Robert Hunter. The last two are not on the below list. I have many more descendants to James Hunter that are not on this list. 1. [VALOUDOU] Stigler
    2. A while ago I noted a STIGLER in Loudoun Co., probably in the Cameron Parish -- I am looking for a connection to my Stigler line in King George Co. Va. They were a German family but since they seemed very Americanized in early 1700's, I suspect they may have come earlier from Pennsylvania through Loudoun Co. If anyone knows anything about this line it would be much appreciated. Thank you for reading. 2. Up date on John Bumcrots: There is a family tree on Ancestry.com that shows John N. Bumcrots. Note: take this information with a grain of salt until you can substantiate these facts. John N. Bumcrots was born 1816 in Virginia. He had a brother named Jacob. His father was John Bumcrots his mother was Christina Emery. The census' show John and Catherine as living in Perry Co., Ohio after their marriage. Hope this helps. BTW, if anyone descends from northern Virginia Palmers, I would like to hear from you. One of my 2008 goals is to compile an inclusive Palmer family "chart." I won't call it a genealogy because I don't know how much info I will accumulate. 1. [VALOUDOU] History of Truro Parish
    2. Doris Christian
    3. THE HISTORY OF TRURO PARISH IN VIRGINIA BY REV. PHILIP SLAUGHTER, D.D. Edited With Notes and Addenda By REV. EDWARD L. GOODWIN Historiographer of the Diocese of Virginia Use this index to see if you family is listed. If you cannot find this book in your local library or cannot borrow a copy from a lending library, you may want to go to http://www.dmkheritage.com/store/ We have it on a CD. This 183 page book, including index, written in 1907 contains information about Truro Parish which was part of the Northern Neck Grants. "Within this territory were the seats of the Fairfaxes, Washingtons, Masons, McCartys, Fitzhughs, Brents, Alexanders, Lewises, Mercers, Daniels, Carters, Dades, Stuarts, Corbins, Tayloes, Steptoes, Newtons, Browns, Lees, Thorntons, Balls, Smiths, and other leading families too many to mention, who dispensed an elegant hospitality at Northumberland House, Nomini, Stratford, Chantilly, Mount Airy, Sabine Hall, Bedford, Albion, Cedar Grove, Boscobel, Richland, Marleborough, Woodstock, Gunston, Belvoir, Woodlawn, Mount Vernon, etc. Beginning at Lancaster, county was taken from county, Parish from Parish, as the population of each passed the frontiers, until in 1730 Prince William was taken from Stafford and King George Counties, above Chappawansick Creek and Deep Run, and along the Potomac, to the "Great Mountains." This became also Hamilton Parish; which Parish, by an Act of the General Assembly passed at the Session of May, 1732, to take effect the first of the following November, was divided into two Parishes "By the river Ockoquan, and the Bull Run, (a branch thereof,) and a course from thence to the Indian Thoroughfare of the Blue Ridge of Mountains," (Ashby's Gap.) All that part of Prince William lying below the said bounds was to retain the name of Hamilton, "And all that other part of the said county, which lies above those bounds, shall hereafter be called and known by the name of Truro." The Parish was named after the Parish in Cornwall, in England, which is now the Diocese of Truro." 1. [VALOUDOU] Virginia wills
    2. Marty Hiatt
    3. You might be thinking of Torrence's Virginia Wills & Administrations Before 1800. The author identified many, but not all of the recorded wills in counties that were established and functioning prior to 1800. Some of the wills Torrence missed are posted on the Library of Virginia's web-site (and maybe the entire book is on-line now). Any of the libraries in California with genealogical collections should have a copy of this book. For information post 1800, the Virginia Genealogical Society is sponsoring the publication of Index to Virginia Estates, 1800-1865. This is a much more comprehensive series, identifying all documents that were recorded in will books. Loudoun just happens to be covered in the first volume, which also includes Arlington/Alexandria, Fairfax, Fauquier, King George, Prince William, and Stafford counties. And last, but not least, when the information you need is not found in Loudoun, remember to search in neighboring counties, and across the Potomac River in Maryland. Ms. Marty Hiatt, CG Certified Genealogist and CG are proprietary service marks of the Board for Certification of Genealogists® used by the Board to identify its program of genealogical competency and evaluation and used under license to the Board’s associates.
