Mary, I kept your e-mail until I had time to look up "Trading Creek" on my Lee County Map. I realize you may have already had your question answered, but am trying to catch up on a few things today and wanted to make sure you got an answer. Trading Creek is only an area now I believe and I believe an area where people met to trade. I can't remember where I read information on it. It is shown on the map near the base of the Cumberland Mountain. We had a short-cut in Lee County (before the four lane) (once upon a time when I was a kid) that we took that I believe may have missed Jonesville, VA and we came out west of Pennington Gap. Trading Creek is between the little communities of Hubbard Springs and Occoonita. The railroad connected these two former towns and was both used to have depots, etc. If you would like the state road numbers, I can e-mail or send you a map section if you are interested. I actually compiled a book of railroad clippings - a lot about Rose Hill, that Henrietta Smith had written for the newspaper . My Mom had saved the clippings and the history involved was too good to let it be lost. I did have permission from her family and the PVN. We don't travel much so I won't be at the Speaks Association meeting. I'm hoping a Seale cousin who lives in KC might make it, but am not sure if she will have time. Or her sister might even fly from Texas. I sent the information. I will try to come when it moves back to our area. We still have some Speaks descendants in Lee County, but I don't know any of them. Marion Speaks- in his 90's- someone told me-lives around Jonesville. Folks like you and your husband have really held things together and I appreciate your devotion to this. I'm involved in my Seale, Davis, Burnette, and other lines and it's actually about all I can do to help with these reunions, etc. Must stop for today. Again, Thanks for all you do. Donna Seale Guthrie. Could anyone please tell me if Trading Creek (Trading Creek Place) is still in > existence in Lee Co? Where is its location? > Thank you, > Mary F. >Yes, the Speaks Association was organized in 1979 in MO. Dues are $15 per year and they send a quarterly newsletter. They have a yearly meeting which will be held this weekend in Kansas City, MO. I really didn't intend to send the original message to the list, but since I did, I will be glad to answer any questions that I can.
