    3. Hello Norma and and other listers, Apologies to Norma and others, I made the tax list transcription a few months ago and sent the microfilm back afterward. I have reviewed so many tax lists for other places since then that I cannot now say for sure what additional information was recorded, other than the date that each individual submitted their list of taxable property, and the amount of taxes due. I do not believe that the lists were specific about the location of any taxable land, but I cannot say that with certainty. I do recall that the tax lists for Lee Co were quite readable however, and are a very complete series through time, in contrast to many other counties in the eastern USA. I encourage anyone who is researching Lee County roots in detail for this period to use my transcription as a jumping-off point and order the tax lists microfilms at your local LDS Family History Center ... and enjoy the good fortune of being able to access them! (My ancestors did not stay long enough to own land in Lee County, so I have no familiarity with the deed records.) Because the 1830 census for Lee County has also been transcribed by some kind soul and posted on the Lee Co VAGenWeb site, I was able to compare the names in the 1830 census with those on the 1835 tax list. Somewhere over half of the names in 1835 were apparently new, meaning that many people had left the county between 1830 and 1835, and many others had moved into the county. Clearly the 1830s were a time of great flux through Lee County, mostly due to westward migration. My own ancestors/relatives (Michael King; Harrison Motley and his other children and their spouses including John Workman, Hardy Sparks, and Robert Roberts) came to Lee County from western North Carolina. They were only in Lee County for one to three years before moving westward again, this time to Indian Creek Township, Monroe Co Indiana, and the neighboring Center Township, Greene Co Indiana. Regards and best of luck in your research, Joe __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
