It would be wonderful to figure out some of these families! My brother has a Marshall and a Thompson family tree on his Ancestry website. Most of what is on there is from Ancestry and Rootsweb searches. At this point we don't have documentation for much of it, so we can't say for sure how much is accurate. Anyway you can see what we found on Ancestry - the member name is colbydraketaber. We have a 13 Gilberts on the Thompson familiy tree, including a William P. that married an Elizabeth Thompson, but not Lewis & Sarah. We only started working on this recently though, so it seems pretty likely we will eventually work back to them :) Elizabeth T. that married William Gilbert was a Thorpe. The Thorpe family is also combined more than once with both Thompsons and Marshalls, and I think the Lucas family might be with both as well. Near as I can tell, my William & Sarah's son Frank (Benjamin Franklin) Marshall's 2nd marriage to Hannah Thorpe was a probably a cousin marriage of some degree. My brother says there are 2 unrelated Marshall families in Lee Co VA & also in Owsley/Lee counties KY. That may be but the ones I have looked at all have the usual similar naming patterns and proximity (including into another state/county) so I think they probably are related. My family also connects to Hawkins co. through Ava Nancy Gibson (married Samuel David Marion from across the line in Lee), but we have yet to discover who her parents or any of her sibs are. The Marion's lived in Lee co for a time but moved several times and ended up in Iowa. Ava & Samuel's daughter Rebecca married a Thorpe (cousin to Elizabeth that married William Gilbert) and stayed in Lee co. I will copy this to the valee list in case any one else recognizes a tie in!
