Dear Everybody, There's been a lot of ELY activity lately, and I've been getting letters of inquiring about my ELY family, so I thought I'd write to all of you at once. To all of you that I haven't written to lately, I've missed our conversations and letters. For the others, wwhat I have on the Thomas ELY family from 1725 thru 1874 is as follows: I only do the direct line, so I don't have auxiliery families, cousins, etc. First Generation ---. Thomas ELY, B. 1725 in England( some say the Isle of Ely in Cambridceshire (I don't have proof) Met Jane Elizabeth SMITH , B. Dublin, 1730 on the boat coming over and were married soon after in 1750 in Bedford Co., VA. He died in 1782 in Bedford Co., and she then moved the family to Lee Co., VA. She died in 1796. Thomas and three of his sons were in the Rev. War. They were 1.Thomas Jr., B. 1751, D. 1777 in the war; 2.William B 25 Mar 1753 , Mar Mary RAWLINGS 23 Oct 1780 in Bedford, and died 1852 in Hagen Co., VA. ; 3.John B 1755 in Stafford Co., VA., Mar to Barbara Jane FRY 1783 in Bedford Co., VA., and died Feb. 1839 in Lee County, VA>; This is mine 4. Isaac by 1757 Mar to Catherine LUCAS FRY 17 Aug 1787, D. 1827 in Lee Co.; No 3 & No 4 wives are sisters 5. Rachel B 1760, Mar to Edward NAPIER 28 Dec. 1786 in MOntgomery Co; 6.Jane B 1763, Mar to Rene NAPIER 21 Feb 1787 in MOntgomery Co. (The NAPIER men were brothers.); 7. David B 1769, Mar to Sarah CLAYPOOL 1830 in Lee County, D. 20 Jul 1845 in Hendricks, IN; 8. Robert B 9 Mar 1773, Mar to Ann MCPHERSON 14 Feb. 1793 in Lee County, D. 27 Aug 1854 in Lee Co. 9. Caleb B. 1835, in Lee Co., D in KY 10 Ruth, B. 1837 That's all I have on the ELY family. My brick wall is, "WHO ARE THE PARENTS OF MARGARET JONES WHO MARRIED JOHN T. ELY? Despite looking for over 25 years, I still don't have them. I have been hearing lately that Margaret had been married before to JONES< but that her maiden name was BURGAN or BRUGAN, but so far, I haven't been able to prove that. Any help on the JONES problem or any correction or additions to the above is gratefully appreciated. Good HUnting.
