    2. Michael O Reck
    3. Descendants of George R. FLETCHER Generation No. 1 1. George R.4 FLETCHER (John Goldsmith3, George R.2, Joseph1) was born 22-March-1819 in Lee Co., Virginia, and died 05-September-1913 in Pilot Point, Collin Co., Texas. He married (1) Mrs. OAKS. He married (2) Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" HURST 19-November-1840 in Claiborne Co., Tenn., by James McNutt, J.P. (Source: Hattie Byrd MUNCY BALES, Early Settlers of Lee Co. Va. and adjacent Counties, Vol. II by: Hattie Byrd MUNCY Bales, (1977).), daughter of HURST. She was born 08-April-1824 in Tenn., and died 24-August-1899 in Wise Co., Texas. Notes for George R. FLETCHER: After the marriage of George R. FLETCHER to Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann HURST in 1840, they remained in Claiborne Co. Tenn. for ten years or more, later moved to Lee Co. Va. where April 24, 1852, he purchased land, lying on the south side of POWELL River, adjoining Francis A. MUNCY's land, near the Thompson Settlement Baptist Church, from James and Lucy Sims. (Deed BK. 12-175) February 5, 1855, he purchased a small tract from Jefferson Neff and wife, Eliza (Deed BK. 14-172) George R. FLETCHER remained here for several years where several of his children were married. December 30, 1869 George R. FLETCHER sold all his land, lying on POWELL River in Lee County, to Jefferson Neff. (DBK 16-4) Sometime after selling his land George R. FLETCHER moved to Texas. According to tradition, they moved in wagons and hacks, and his wife Betsy Ann drove a team and hack all the way to Texas. It took them six weeks to make the trip, and after arriving in Texas, they settled in Collin County, where they were living in 1880. According to tradition, around 1869-70, the Doyles, Fletchers, and some of the Muncys (those who intermarried with the Doyles and Fletchers) sold all their land holdings in Virginia and moved to Texas to find and establish new homes for themselves and their children. They left Lee County, Virginia on a boat they had built on POWELL river, near the POWELL Ford. Eventually, after waiting several months for a "tide" to move their boat off -the river was too shallow in places to accomodate a large boat -the day came for their departure. Old David Doyle had charge in the adventure. They went to Chattanooga, Tenn. where they sold their boat, and from there to Memphis, Tenn. by train, from there part of the way by boat down the Mississippi river, and by train and wagons. There was only one railroad in the State of Texas at that time, and paved roads were unheard of. After arriving in Texas they settled in Collin County at first, where some remained while others moved to different places.
