    3. Does anyone know where to look for the laws governing the age of buyers and sellers in VA ca 1815? I have two teenagers buying and selling land in Scott and Lee Counties VA in 1815 and 1816 and I don't think it's legal. HENING'S is only good for the 18th century as best as I can tell. Thanks. One of my ancestors did just that for his 16-year-old son. Following is the wording for parts of that release as recorded in the court records: Carroll Co, VA, Deed Book 7, p. 378 Henry Dean's deed of release from Abner H. Dean July 16, 1860 "I, Abner H. Dean ... hereby nominate and set free from my control and authority my son William Henry Dean a minor of 16 years of age .... to trade, to buy and sell property, to hold and enjoy and use all property ... with free right of disposing of the same free from my authority and control .... as if he were 21 years of age. (Signed)
