    3. The Thompson Settlement Church minutes were essentially statements of the appointment of members to different posts within the church and the admitting and dismissing of members. There is an occasional reference to a husband and wife being admitted/dismissed from the church or perhaps a child of a couple. The minutes did not contain marriage, birth or death records, not much in the way of genealogically helpful information. The greatest value probably is the names of people who lived in the community over a number of years, proof that a possible ancestor lived near the church. If the record that is being discussed herein is the one that I saw, it was only a partial record. A lady had made copies of, she said less than half, the minutes to have the record of her family names, and had transcribed the full pages and posted those on the web. The posted record started about 1800 thru 1877, perhaps the entire minutes covered that period. If I remember correctly, the Minutes were removed due to action threatened by the church and members. The church is still active. Although the previous minister and his wife were very gracious about letting researchers read the minutes, apparently the members decided to keep the minutes private due to privacy and indentity?concerns. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we have a discussion on this list a few years ago about privacy, copyrights, etc. I think there are still a few unauthorized partial copies floating about but it would be difficult to locate. -----Original Message----- From: Evie Thompson <celticeviegen@yahoo.com> To: valee@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue, 15 Apr 2008 1:30 pm Subject: Re: [VALEE] Transcriptions of Thompson Settlement Church? Hi, I was just informed that the Wayne who had the site Hills and Hollers, sadly has passed away, not sure when? But I was told his sister left it up due to it being important to him. The minutes of The Settlement Church had been removed, as to that reason I do not know? So I am still interested in any info that might be out there! I finally got the info from my cousin as to why she thought James Thompson is the father of Lewis Thompson? She was sent to a site by goggling James Mims Thompson & Nancy Jackson! She was lead in this direction through ancestry through the hints they provide to your tree! She said that there is a connection with this Thompson family and the Thompson Settlement Church and as our Lewis married Sarah Gilbert, daughter of Rev. James Gilbert, I do believe that she is right to pursue this line of Thompson's and there is mention of a Lewis and the actual line does have a son born of our Lewis's time frame but they don't put a name to this son? Does anybody have any info on James Mims THOMPSON & Nancy Jackson??? Hi Gay, what is your line of Thompson's, maybe we can help each other as I have someone sending me copies of the Thompson info from the Lee Co. VA books! I would be more then happy to make copies and send on to you! It is being sent snail mail. If you are interested I will contact you when I receive them...
