    1. [VALEE-L] WALLEN CREEK
    2. Hi List! The Virginia Division of Mineral Resources publishes a beautiful map of Lee County. It shows WALLEN CREEK (no apostrophe-s), running NE-SW about 3,000 feet (or so) north of, and parallel to, the Lee County/Scott County line. This is on the north side of Powell (again, no apostrophe-s) Mountain. A couple of miles downstream from its origin, Wallen Creek passes Stickleyville, where US Highway 58 crosses it. Further downstream (southwest), Wallen Creek is crossed by Highway 70. In the Thompson Mill/Van area, Wallen Creek wends its way north a couple of miles, where it meets up with Powell River (just downriver from Wilder Bend). [Blackwater is on the south side of Powell Mountain, and is located in a triangular portion of Lee County located south of Powell Mountain & west of the Scott County VA line, and north of the Hancock County TN line.] I hope you can visualize this. The map I've referenced is sold by U. S. Geological Survey, Reston, VA 22092; VA Div of Mineral Resources, Charlottesville, VA 22903; and U. S. Tennessee Valley Authority, 200 HB, Chattanooga, TN 37401. Gene Hyden (in New Orleans)
