Seeking more information on the early life and Civil War career of James C. WOODWARD, son of Henry and Elizabeth WOODARD (note no second "W" in his parent's name). James C. WOODWARD was born in Lee County, Va. in 1841 and died in Knoxville, Tn. in 1913. Woodward founded Woodward Heights near downtown Lexington, Ky. and sold most of that property in 1890, when he moved to Knoxville, Tn. and developed Fountain City, a resort-like suburb including a lake, park and 50-room hotel. He later owned Knoxville Business College and he and his son Hu (1880-1950) founded South-Western Publishing Co. which later moved to Cincinnati, Oh. and sold to Scott-Foresman. James C. also had two other children: Walter of New York City and Laura N. (Mrs. C.B.) Proctor of Memphis, Tn.
