Charles Bondurant was a coal mine developer in Lee County. The town of St. Charles was named for him. If I remember correctly, the town was called Bondurantville before it was named St. Charles. Leona Mines was in Leona, VA above St. Charles. I think King Cole was in Bonnie Blue which was also above St. Charles. Virginia Iron and Coke Company (VIC as it was known to us) was above St. Charles. Never heard of Briar Ridge, must have been before my time. All these mines had coal mining camps with lots and lots of small houses clustered together. Not sure of all the above because my father left the mines when I was 3 years old. I do know some older Lee County natives that can help you and will forward your email. Here are a couple of links that has pictures of miners and mines, if you are interested. _http://www.geocities.com/baird5now/Miners.html_ (http://www.geocities.com/baird5now/Miners.html) _http://geocities.com/bairdstonecreek/Bonnyblue.html_ (http://geocities.com/bairdstonecreek/Bonnyblue.html)
