Wayne, I can recommend an excellent book on coal mining life in Lee County, in the 1930's and 1940's. It was a novel (fiction) but based on personal experience. In fact, if a person was from Lee County during that time period, they may well recognize some personalities. Knocking the Black Out by Allan Ishmael Young.
