Sharon, Unfornately, there is not alot of Lee Co records on internet. Most of Lee Co records are indexed in books. Most of these indexes (if not all) are located at the Lee Co Public Library in Pennington Gap. Most of these indexes were written by Elizabeth Carpenter. Elizabeth is usually in the library on a daily bases. You can call there and see if she is there. She will gladly talk to you and help. Genealogy is her passion. I suggest to anyone researching in Lee County to go the library and get the information from the indexes before hitting the courthouse. Because most of the older records at the court are not indexed. {I worked 7 years at the library}. As for Hancock Co. many records will never be found the court house burnt and many of the records were destoried. Here is a link for what is avaiable. http://www.tngenweb.org/hancock/ Hope this helps in your research. Crystal Can anyone tell me the best place to look for records of property ownership in Lee Co, especially around 1890. Also, in Hancock Co, TN. I am trying to locate the exact location of someone at that time and since there was no 1890 Census I thought that I might be able to locate them through other records such as land and tax records. Although VA has some great records on GenWeb, I have had trouble finding many of my ancestors on birth, marriage, death, and land records. Would greatly appreciate any help.
