As many of you have referred to the Social Security Death Index on ROOTSWEB, you probably requested a copy of your ancestors Social Security original application . I have done this also, and was accustomed to the nominal charge of $7.00 per request. To my astonishment, please read [IN QUOTES BELOW] what I got when I had the Rootsweb automatic letter of request generator create my request....$27.00 per request!!! PLEASE SOMEBODY tell me this was some kind of typo, and that the fee didn't increase from $7.00 to $27.00? "My understanding is that the fee is $27, when the Social Security number is provided or $29 if the Social Security number is unknown or incorrect.
