    3. Hello once again: Thought I'd send out one more post on another of the mysteries connected to the SPRINKLE family . . . then I promise not to bug you all for a while :-) Do any of you research the surname FRY? Or perhaps FRYE? One of my quests when I was at the Lee Co. court house this summer was to find out the details of the crime Napoleon SPRINKLE committed that landed him in jail in Henrico Co. at the time of the 1850 census. From the census, we knew Napoleon was incarcerated for shooting. . .but no details. The Lee Co. court house personnel weren't too encouraging about me being able to find that type of record from so long ago. . .but they set my daughter and me loose in the basement of the courthouse and. . .eventually. .. I found exactly what I was looking for in the Common Law Order Books. The Common Law Order Books were very informative and described his crime in detail. It turns out that there was an argument and he shot his stepson. The stepson was referred to in the account as "Fry." His first name is never mentioned. The account indicates he was Napoleon's wife's illegitimate son, born prior to their marriage. I checked the 1850 census for Lee Co. but could not find any FRY families. This stepson would probably have been born prior to 1830. We have reason to believe he may have later have gone by the name of Daniel SPRINKLE. . .or I should say, we know there was a Daniel Sprinkle and it seems possible he is "Fry." But no proof. Marriage records in Wythe Co. show that Napoleon married Cynthia SURAT, 9 Sept 1830. However, when son Daniel Sprinkle died, his death certificate shows that his parents were Napoleon SPRINKLE and Cynthia FRY. Odd. So I'm not sure about Surat vs. Fry. But if anyone has any information on a FRY family in Lee Co., please let me know. Margaret
